TV-Series
Description
Misaki Yata is a prominent member of the Red Clan, HOMRA, serving as one of its raid captains and acting as the group's vanguard. He is a young man with spiky chestnut hair and large hazel eyes, standing at 167 centimeters tall. His Clan insignia is located on his left collarbone. He joined HOMRA at the age of fifteen alongside his then-best friend, Saruhiko Fushimi. He adopted the alias Yatagarasu, drawing from the three-legged crow of Japanese folklore, to project a cooler image as a Clan member.
His personality is defined by a combination of brashness, impulsiveness, and fierce loyalty. He is boisterous, prideful, and quick to anger, often resorting to vulgar language and physical confrontation when frustrated. He is brutal in combat and shows little hesitation when bludgeoning opponents. Below this volatile exterior lies a deep sense of camaraderie and a strong protective instinct toward his fellow HOMRA members. He has a strong sense of honor, refusing to strike an injured opponent. He is insecure about his short stature and intensely dislikes being called by his first name, Misaki, which he considers girly. He becomes flustered and shy around young women, though he is comfortable around children and older women.
His motivations are rooted in his unwavering loyalty to the Red Clan and its leaders. He idolized the previous Red King, Mikoto Suoh, and regarded him as a mentor figure. After Mikoto's death, his loyalty transferred to the new Red King, Anna Kushina, whom he is devoted to protecting. He takes great pride in HOMRA's honor and reputation, and he reacts with hostility toward any perceived threat or insult to the Clan. He also nurses a personal and violent grudge against Scepter 4, the Blue Clan, stemming from Fushimi's defection.
His role in K: Return of Kings places him as a key combatant and emotional anchor for HOMRA as the Clan struggles to maintain its identity under Anna's new leadership. He matures noticeably during this arc, taking on greater responsibility within the Clan. His initial hostility toward the Blue Clan is tested, and he gradually learns to set aside his resentment to work with unlikely allies, including his former friend Fushimi, to confront the greater threat posed by the Green Clan, JUNGLE.
His most significant relationship is his strained bond with Saruhiko Fushimi. The two were inseparable childhood friends who joined HOMRA together, but Fushimi's betrayal and departure to Scepter 4 left Yata with unresolved anger and hurt. Despite his open hatred, Yata continues to defend Fushimi against criticism from others. Their dynamic is central to his emotional arc. He shares a close and protective relationship with Anna Kushina, acting as a guardian and mentor. He also has a sibling-like bond with Izumo Kusanagi, who serves as a steadying influence. His friendship with Rikio Kamamoto dates back to early childhood, and they reunite as HOMRA clansmen, though Yata's treatment of Kamamoto is often rough and verbally abusive.
His abilities in combat rely on agility and direct offense. He wields a custom skateboard as both a means of high-speed transport and a bludgeoning weapon. He also uses a baseball bat and a metal rod in close quarters. He employs expert street-fighting techniques, combining kicks, punches, and acrobatic maneuvers. He is an exceptional skateboarder and baseball player. He possesses exceptional night vision, a trait tied to his Yatagarasu alias, which allows him to fight effectively in darkness. As a HOMRA clansman, his aura manifests as red flame-like energy, which he can channel to increase the speed of his skateboard and enhance his physical attacks. His combat style is an all-out, reckless offensive, which was once highly effective when paired with Fushimi covering his back but became a liability after they parted ways. He wears a smartwatch customized by Fushimi that functions as a mobile phone with holographic display and camera capabilities.
