Emi Hanasaki is the devoted owner of Momo, a sweet-natured and ladylike feline celebrated as an idol within their social circle. Residing in the Third Street neighborhood, she shares a close friendship with Takeshi Okamoto, Tama’s owner, which gradually blossoms into romance. Together, they become co-owners of Tulip Coffee, a flower shop and coffeehouse originally managed by Emi’s mother.

Her family comprises her mother, Kasumi Hanasaki, and cousin Hatsuko, alternatively called Jeannie in some adaptations. A later storyline reveals her father’s entanglement in a high-stakes Ponzi scheme, threading themes of moral reckoning and resilience into the narrative as Emi navigates familial strife and societal pressures.

The OVA *Please! Search for Momo-chan!!* portrays Emi grappling with intense anguish after Momo’s abduction by stray cats, a pivotal event cementing their profound bond. This installment also breaks from prior visual conventions by fully unveiling Emi’s and Kasumi’s facial features, previously obscured in earlier narratives. Subsequent adaptations further refine her appearance and interpersonal relationships.

Emi actively engages with the animal cast, capturing their adventures through her video camera—a role highlighting her supportive presence in their exploits.
