His obsession drives attempts to capture Nobuna and forcibly mold her into his idealized woman, sacrificing strategic and moral limits for personal satisfaction.

During the Retreat at Kanegasaki, he reassures the hesitant Azai Hisamasa about their anti-Oda coalition, cementing his role as its architect. Later, he executes a deceptive maneuver, using his troops as decoys to infiltrate Nobuna’s camp personally. This culminates in an assault on her, thwarted only by Sagara Yoshiharu’s intervention. The incident fuels Yoshikage’s hatred for Yoshiharu, especially upon hearing rumors of Nobuna’s romantic ties to him. After Nobuna burns his castle without direct engagement—symbolizing her rejection of his ideals—Yoshikage descends into fury. He allies with the onmyōji Tsuchimikado Hisanaga, transforming into an "Evil Spirit" to exact supernatural vengeance against Nobuna and Yoshiharu, shifting from political rival to metaphysical foe.
