Fuyuhiko Kuzuryū, heir to Japan's largest yakuza clan with over 30,000 members, was born into a world of violence. He witnessed frequent, brutal conflicts between his parents, incidents that nearly claimed his life multiple times. In each instance, Peko Pekoyama, an orphan raised by the clan to be his personal assassin, shielded him. Their bond formed in childhood, forged through shared survival like enduring a kidnapping and escaping mountains where Peko's swordsmanship protected them. Despite this deep connection, Fuyuhiko despised Peko viewing herself solely as a "tool," urging her to live as an individual. After attending Suzuran High School, he enrolled in Hope's Peak Academy as the Ultimate Yakuza, a title reflecting his birthright, not a developed skill. In Class 77-B, he maintained distance, projecting aggression to mask insecurities about his youthful appearance and stature defying yakuza stereotypes. His sister Natsumi joined Hope's Peak's Reserve Course but was murdered by Sato, a student aiming to usurp Mahiru Koizumi's title. Fuyuhiko retaliated, killing Sato with a baseball bat, deepening his isolation and cynicism. On the Killing School Trip at Jabberwock Island, Fuyuhiko embraced a hostile, lone-wolf persona, avoiding socialization and issuing frequent threats. His protective instincts surfaced in Chapter 2 when Peko, attempting to shield him from execution after murdering Mahiru, inadvertently slashed his right eye during her own execution. The injury led him to wear a dragon-patterned eyepatch. Witnessing Peko's death catalyzed profound change: he discarded his aggressive facade, apologized to Mahiru's friend Hiyoko Saionji with a ritual stomach-slitting gesture to show remorse, and actively supported his peers. He evolved into a pragmatic, morally strict leader, enforcing rules against underage drinking or harassment and prioritizing group survival. Post-trip, Fuyuhiko and his classmates were brainwashed by Junko Enoshima into becoming Remnants of Despair. As Ultimate Despair, he placed Junko's eye in his injured socket and wore a fedora and scarf while committing global atrocities. Awakening from the virtual world, he faced the aftermath with other survivors. In the Hope Arc, Fuyuhiko discarded his eyepatch, revealing a vertical scar where his eye had been. He joined rehabilitated classmates to stop Ryōta Mitarai's hope-brainwashing scheme, pledging atonement for their crimes. He later chose permanent residence on Jabberwock Island as part of his redemption. Fuyuhiko's personality blends fierce loyalty with a rigid moral code. He values self-reliance, refusing to use his clan's power for personal gain, and harbors guilt over past violence. Despite his criminal lineage, he exhibits unexpected traits like a fondness for sweets, which he finds embarrassing. His journey arcs from toxic defensiveness to vulnerable leadership, defined by a commitment to protect others and rectify his legacy.
