Description
Hayate Yagami, a Japanese orphan in Uminari City, lived as a wheelchair-bound child. Her paralysis stemmed from the Lost Logia artifact, the Book of Darkness, bound to her and draining her life force to fill its pages. Unaware of this connection, she lived alone until the manifestation of four guardian entities—Signum, Vita, Shamal, and Zafira, the Wolkenritter. She welcomed them as family. Though their designated mistress, Hayate treated them with unconditional kindness, forging deep familial bonds, especially with Vita. This dynamic transformed the duty-bound knights into protective, caring figures devoted to her well-being.

The Wolkenritter covertly attacked other mages to harvest linker cores for the Book, believing completion would cure Hayate. Oblivious to their actions, she explicitly forbade harming others. Nanoha Takamachi and Fate Testarossa's intervention to stop the attacks shattered Hayate's peaceful life. The truth emerged after the Book's completion: Gil Graham, her financial benefactor posing as a family friend, orchestrated events to frame Nanoha and Fate for the Wolkenritter's apparent deaths. This betrayal triggered Hayate's traumatic possession by the Book's defense program, causing a catastrophic rampage. Regaining control through Nanoha and Fate's efforts, Hayate reprogrammed the Book, renaming its core consciousness "Reinforce." She revived the Wolkenritter and, with allies, confronted the corrupted defense program. Reinforce sacrificed herself to eliminate the threat, leaving Hayate as the "Mistress of the Night Sky."

Hayate entered rehabilitation to regain mobility and joined the Time-Space Administration Bureau (TSAB) as a special investigator cadet. She created a successor Unison Device, Reinforce Zwei, and a new storage device modeled after the original Book, the Tome of the Night Sky. By May 0066, she officially served the TSAB while completing her education, steadily recovering mobility to walk independently within years.

A decade later, as a lieutenant colonel, Hayate founded and commanded Riot Force 6, a TSAB unit addressing relic-related threats. Leading during the Jail Scaglietti incident, she coordinated Nanoha, Fate, the Wolkenritter, and younger recruits ("the Forwards"). The unit neutralized Scaglietti's combat cyborgs and the warship Saint's Cradle before disbanding. Hayate transferred to the Dimensional Navy and later adopted Agito, Signum's Unison Device, expanding her family.

Subsequent years saw her mentoring younger characters. She co-created the Intelligent Device Asteion for Einhart Stratos to facilitate tournament participation, guided Miura Rinaldi into martial arts, and assisted Vivio Takamachi in exploring her Belkan heritage. Concurrently, she established Special Duty Section 6 to investigate the Eclipse Incident involving the "Bible of the Silver Cross," deploying tactics like the large-scale iceberg-summoning spell "Heimdall."

Personality-wise, Hayate exhibits resilience, compassion, and strong familial devotion. Her cheerful demeanor often masks personal struggles, and she displays playful mischief, including a noted fondness for groping female friends' breasts with consent. She excels as a cook, using meals to care for her guardians, and demonstrates strategic acumen in leadership. Her magic employs the Ancient Belka system, focusing on wide-area destructive spells like "Diabolic Emission" (a dark energy sphere), "Hræsvelgr" (a multi-target energy barrage), and "Misteltein" (petrification spears). Though her raw power ranks SS—the highest recorded—her spellcasting requires prolonged preparation, limiting direct combat effectiveness. Her primary devices are the Tome of the Night Sky for spell storage, the rod-type Schwertkreuz for channeling magic, and Reinforce Zwei for unison augmentation.

In non-canonical appearances, such as the *Magia Record* mobile game event, Hayate participated in a "Mirrors" labyrinth incident where her culinary skills helped identify impostor clones. Alternate continuities like the *A's Portable* games depict her retaining Reinforce's guidance, accelerating her combat proficiency. The *Reflection* and *Detonation* films further showcase enhanced battle capabilities against antagonists like Iris and Dearche.
