Soma Asman Kadar, the 26th child of the Raja of Bengal, grew up as a lonely prince neglected by his parents. Raised primarily by his maidservant Mina, whom he viewed as an older sister, her unexplained departure from India launched his journey to England in search of her. He possesses striking gold eyes and wavy, shoulder-length plum hair often partially clipped in a ponytail. He consistently wears traditional Indian attire: an embroidered sherwani, churidars, white slippers, large gold earrings, a decorative gold bindi, and an off-white shawl once secured by a gold-plated ruby brooch. Initially self-absorbed, childish, and naive, Soma frequently blamed others for his problems, exhibited spoiled behavior, and relied heavily on his family's wealth and status without understanding earned accomplishments. Mina explicitly cited this selfishness as her reason for leaving. Before England, Soma encountered Arshad, a condemned criminal renowned for strength. Soma halted his execution, cutting his hair and renaming him "Agni" to signify a new beginning. He appointed Agni as his personal butler (khansama) and sparring partner. Agni, viewing Soma as a god-like savior, pledged unwavering loyalty. His development began significantly during interactions with Ciel Phantomhive and Sebastian Michaelis in London. After ordering Agni to attack them during an East End skirmish, he reversed his stance when the attackers provided no valid reason. He then imposed himself as a guest at Ciel's residence. His self-centeredness during the search for Mina, including obliviousness to Agni's secretive activities and a tantrum upon suspecting betrayal, led Sebastian and Ciel to confront his spoiled nature and lack of initiative. This confrontation, coupled with Ciel sharing his own tragic motivations, spurred Soma toward self-reflection and a desire for personal growth. Finding Mina revealed harsh truths. She openly rejected him, criticizing his past behavior as a "spoiled brat." Though devastating, this rejection led Soma to sincerely apologize, acknowledging his previous failures in understanding her feelings. He reconciled with Agni, expressing gratitude and a desire to continue their relationship. Inspired by Ciel’s resolve, Soma resolved to mature, learn about the world, and earn achievements through his own efforts. He took on managing Ciel's London townhouse as a step toward this goal. Demonstrating loyalty and concern for Ciel later, Soma assisted during the Public School Arc, providing support and using his elephant to help extinguish a dormitory fire. In the Blue Cult Arc, he eagerly joined Sebastian's "Funtom Five" group, undergoing rigorous training in performance skills to aid Ciel's investigation. He performed alongside the group at the Funtom Music Hall. His deep bond with Agni remained central; they continued charitable work, distributing curry buns to London's poor. A profound turning point occurred during the Blue Cult Arc. Alone with Agni at the Phantomhive manor, they were confronted by an intruder (later revealed as the real Ciel Phantomhive). When the intruder pointed a gun at Soma, Agni shielded him, taking the bullet. Mortally wounded, Agni trapped Soma in a closet for protection, expressing his happiness serving Soma before being killed. Witnessing Agni's sacrificial death traumatized Soma deeply. This trauma compounded when thugs stole from a starving child he tried to help, shattering his faith in humanity. Consequently, Soma abandoned his charitable activities, became disillusioned, and focused solely on avenging Agni's death, explicitly stating his willingness to forsake "salvation" itself to achieve this goal. In the OVA "His Butler, Performer," Soma participated in a Funtom Corporation charity play, cast as "Ramakrishna, representative of the sun." During the chaotic performance, he spontaneously attempted to join the climactic fight scene between Hamlet and Laertes, declaring his character's intent to stop the conflict. His improvised entrance, though initially baffling ("Rama-whatever"), was ultimately well-received by the child audience. Soma is trained in Indian martial arts (Kalaripayattu and Silambam). A notable theory suggests that during Agni's final moments, when Agni grabbed Soma's wounded hand (Agni's right hand being blessed by Kali), Agni may have transferred this divine blessing or power to Soma through blood contact. This theory attempts to explain Soma's subsequent demonstrated ability to single-handedly defeat a gang of thugs, attributing it to this potential transfer combined with adrenaline. Following Agni's death, his personality shifted dramatically from cheerful and generous to disillusioned, revenge-driven, and hardened.
