Shō Kusakabe, the younger brother of Shinra Kusakabe, manifested his Adolla Burst as an infant, triggering a fire that destroyed their home and transformed their mother Mari into an Infernal. Shinra survived, but the White-Clad organization—spearheaded by Haumea and Charon—abducted Shō during the chaos. Presumed dead by the public, Shō grew up indoctrinated by the White-Clad under the Evangelist, whom he viewed as his sole parent. This conditioning erased his biological family memories and fostered emotional detachment. Albino traits define his appearance: pale skin, silver-white spiky hair, and crimson eyes with white pupils. He dons the Knights of the Ashen Flame uniform—a white jumper bearing a red Sol God cross, quilted belt, gloves, trousers, and knee-high boots—and carries a katana on his right hip. His personality reflects his upbringing: cold, ruthless, and dismissive of familial ties. He openly scorns Shinra’s claim of brotherhood, obeys the Evangelist unquestioningly, kills without hesitation, and commands unwavering loyalty from subordinates like Arrow. Though calm under pressure, he displays irritation toward Haumea’s antics. As a Third Generation pyrokinetic and Third Pillar due to his Adolla Burst, Shō wields the Adolla Link for telepathic communion with other Adolla Burst users and the Evangelist. This link grants Severed Universe, his signature ability. It manipulates heat expansion in air particles, drastically slowing time perception for all but himself to simulate super speed. He merges this with masterful swordsmanship for lethal strikes. However, Severed Universe rapidly cools his body, forming frost and risking fatal freezing, restricting its use. Critically, the ability hinges on the "Grace of the Evangelist"; losing her blessing nullifies it. Shō first confronts Shinra during the assault on Vulcan’s workshop. Learning of their supposed kinship confuses him, and he rejects it outright. Using Severed Universe, he overpowers Shinra, Arthur Boyle, and Hibana, ordering Shinra’s capture and the others’ execution. Only an explosion and Joker’s interference enable their escape. Their pivotal clash occurs in the Netherworld. Shinra reaffirms his promise to their mother, but Shō denies having one, insisting the Evangelist is his only parent. Shō dominates their duel with Severed Universe until Shinra forces an Adolla Link, flooding Shō with childhood memories. Witnessing these—especially Shinra removing a newspaper covering his infant face—unlocks Shō’s suppressed emotions. He recalls his past, weeps, and embraces Shinra. This reunion shatters when Shinra accidentally rematerializes impaled on Shō’s katana. Haumea arrives, ignores Shō’s questions about their history, and electrocutes him into mind-controlled submission before extracting him for the White-Clad. Later, Shō breaks Haumea’s control. Disguised and aided by Arrow, he investigates his origins, uncovering sealed records about his and Shinra’s birth—noting their unrecorded father and hints of Mari’s potential virgin birth. Entering the Adolla world, he encounters Mari’s Infernal spirit. She reveals the truth: Shō is Shinra’s "guardian angel," destined to protect him, not be protected. This revelation transforms Shō. He reconnects with Shinra, shedding emotional numbness to express curiosity about the world he missed. Embracing his guardian role, he concludes Shinra embodies humanity’s savior and allies with him to thwart the Great Cataclysm and defeat the Evangelist. His name "Shō" means "phenomenon" in Japanese. The memory of Shinra removing the suffocating newspaper from his face symbolizes his life before and after Shinra brought him light.
