Goei is the mother of Hakufu Sonsaku and aunt of Koukin Shuuyu. Originally living outside Kanto, she moves in with Koukin to enroll Hakufu at Nanyo Academy. She is consistently 35 years old, stands 163 cm tall, has blood type O, and measurements of 95-59-92. Her short purple hair lightens to an aubergine shade in later seasons. She typically wears glasses and a kimono.
As Hakufu's mother, Goei is loving but exceptionally strict. She delivers swift physical punishment—spankings or throwing her through doors—for disobedience or disrespect, especially when called an "old hag." She rigorously trained Hakufu in martial arts, disguising lessons under traditional arts like flower arrangement and tea ceremony despite Hakufu's lack of talent. Goei practices calligraphy herself but often makes errors in basic characters. She enjoys drinking and habitually calls Hakufu "my dumb daughter."
Her personality blends flirtatiousness with formidable strength. She openly pursues young high school boys, particularly the reluctant Kakouton Genjou. This promiscuity contrasts with her homemaker role after moving in with Koukin. Though retired from active fighting, she retains high combat skills, effortlessly defeating groups like Kyosho-affiliated attackers. She disapproves of romantic relationships between Hakufu and Koukin in the manga but shows more tolerance in the anime, occasionally encouraging Koukin's advances.
In *Great Guardians*, Goei openly welcomes Chubou Sonken into her home and enjoys her company. In one incident, she beats Hakufu after the real Genpou Saji leaves, mistakenly believing Hakufu lied about encountering Saji to avoid errands. She later laughs at Hakufu for sleeping through a boat departure to a tournament.
Goei harbors deep anxiety about Hakufu's prophesied early death. Outwardly accepting her daughter's fate, she sends Hakufu into dangerous battles while privately hoping for her safe return. She hides this conflict behind stoicism, never showing relief in Hakufu's presence but internally overjoyed at her survival. Her determination to alter Hakufu's destiny intensifies after witnessing others defy fate, like Kakouton protecting Hakufu.
A recurring joke involves her claiming to be "17 years old," a nod to her Japanese voice actress's gimmick.
