Description
Miki Aono is one of the four main characters from the anime series Fresh Pretty Cure. She is a fourteen-year-old student attending Private Torigoe Academy, a school known for nurturing entertainment talents. Miki has a tall, slender frame, with long, straight purple hair that reaches her waist, which she usually wears loose and adorned with a white headband. Her sharp indigo eyes complement her fashionable appearance, which she maintains with great care. When she transforms into her alter ego, she becomes Cure Berry, the Pretty Cure of Hope. Her transformation gives her a large, curly ponytail, a blue heart on her headband, and a pale blue frilly outfit with a spade motif, including a crop top, a multi-layered mini-skirt, and knee-high boots.

Miki's background is marked by her parents' divorce, making her the first character in the Pretty Cure franchise to come from a divorced family. She lives with her mother, Remi Aono, who runs a beauty salon. Miki also has a younger brother named Kazuki Ichijou, with whom she shares a close bond; they are occasionally mistaken for a romantic couple due to their affectionate demeanor, which they quickly correct. Her family situation informs her strong sense of responsibility and her drive to achieve.

Personality-wise, Miki is a perfectionist who holds herself and her actions to a very high standard. Her catchphrase, "I'm perfect!" reflects her confident, self-assured attitude, but it is delivered with a humble charm rather than arrogance. She is mature, fashionable, and cool, often serving as the most level-headed member of the team. Beneath her composed exterior, she is kind-hearted and has a silly side that occasionally emerges, especially when teasing her close friends. However, when faced with unexpected problems or failures, Miki can become frustrated and abrasive, struggling to maintain her composure. She is also known to have a fear of octopuses, a phobia rooted in a childhood incident.

Miki's primary motivation is her dream of becoming a professional fashion model. She is highly conscious of her body shape and fashion sense, which initially leads her to join a dance group called Clover alongside her childhood friend Love Momozono. While her modeling ambition is genuine, her character development shows that she values her friendships and her responsibilities as a Pretty Cure even more. In a pivotal story arc, she considers leaving the team to pursue an overseas modeling opportunity, but ultimately abandons the audition to help Love and Inori in battle, proving that her bonds with them outweigh her personal aspirations.

In the story, Miki transforms into Cure Berry after receiving a Linkrun from the fairy Blun. She becomes the second member of the team, following Love Momozono (Cure Peach). As Cure Berry, she is known as the Pretty Cure of Hope, and her symbol is the spade, with blue and purple as her theme colors. Her role within the group is that of the tactical, elegant fighter who often acts as the anchor when Love and Inori become overwhelmed. Her combat style relies on agility and precision, favoring powerful kicking techniques over punches. She also uses her height to deliver strong physical strikes.

Miki's key relationships are central to her growth. She and Love have been friends since childhood, sharing a deep, sisterly bond. Miki is often strict with Love, but her guidance comes from a place of care. She is also close friends with Inori Yamabuki (Cure Pine), whom she affectionately calls "Buki." Her relationship with Setsuna Higashi (Cure Passion) is initially strained; Miki is the first to suspect that Setsuna was formerly the villain Eas, and she remains distrustful for some time. Over the course of the series, the two gradually build mutual respect and become friends. Miki's relationship with her brother Kazuki is another emotional pillar, as she is protective of him despite living apart.

Throughout the series, Miki undergoes notable development. She starts as a perfectionist who is reluctant to show vulnerability, but she learns to accept her imperfections and rely on her friends. Her initial distrust of Setsuna evolves into a mature friendship, reflecting her ability to forgive and grow. Additionally, she grapples with the tension between her personal dreams and her duty as a Pretty Cure, ultimately choosing to prioritize the team—a decision that cements her loyalty.

As Cure Berry, Miki possesses several notable abilities. Her signature solo attack is Espoir Shower, a blue energy attack that she first performs in episode 2. The name "Espoir" comes from the French word for hope. After obtaining the Berry Sword, she upgrades this to Espoir Shower Fresh, which is more powerful. Together with the other Cures, she can perform team attacks such as Lucky Clover Grand Finale (after acquiring the Clover Box) and the upgraded Loving True Heart and Loving True Heart Fresh. In the final episodes, she obtains an upgraded form called Cure Angel, which she unlocks with the support of the people of Labyrinth. In crossover films, she also gains a form called Cure Rainbow Berry. Miki is the only member of the Fresh Pretty Cure team whose Cure name does not start with the letter "P" (Peach, Pine, Passion), and she is the first, though not the only, Pretty Cure to consider using her powers to gain fame.
