TV-Series
Description
Chiffon is a fairy from the Kingdom of Sweets who initially appears as a small, doll-like baby. Her physical form is characterized by pale cream-yellow fur, large pink fluffy ears and a matching tail, big brown eyes with pale pink markings, and a distinctive powder-blue and white clover-shaped pattern on her forehead. She wears a white winged collar with a bib and powder-blue pants. Her name is derived from chiffon cake.
In her everyday fairy form, Chiffon behaves much like a normal infant, expressing happiness through laughter and distress through crying when she is upset or in need of something. She is generally extremely cheerful and playful, and she has a particular fondness for using her magic to play pranks on those around her, creating amusing predicaments for her caretakers. However, she is also very sensitive and can easily burst into tears if she is frightened or scolded, and she becomes moody when she does not receive sufficient attention. Despite her infantile demeanor, she occasionally shows a mature side, such as when she subtly criticizes her partner Tart for his lighthearted behavior. As she grows throughout the story, her personality develops; she learns to speak, initially only being able to say variations of cure and pretty, and later demonstrates a kind and encouraging nature, such as when she comforts a young girl facing a frightening hospitalization or consoles the protagonist Love during difficult times.
Chiffon's primary role in the story is that of a mysterious fairy who must be protected, though she is also a powerful benefactor to the Pretty Cures. She possesses a range of exceptional supernatural abilities, which are often signaled by her forehead clover pattern glowing and her ears moving slightly. Her powers include telekinesis, allowing her to levitate herself and other objects, and teleportation. She has the ability to detect the presence of villainous executives and to summon or activate a baby food-like substance called Cure Vitan, which she requires to grow. Most significantly, Chiffon has the power to sense the connection between the fairies known as Pickruns and their destined Pretty Cures, using her abilities to enable the girls to transform. Her power is directly linked to the Cures' own growth, as her development triggers the emergence of their enhanced weapons and attacks.
Key relationships define her place in the narrative. She is initially brought to the human world by Tart, a fellow fairy from the Sweets Kingdom, who acts as her primary caretaker and develops a brotherly or fatherly bond with her. The four main Pretty Cures, Momozono Love, Aono Miki, Yamabuki Inori, and Higashi Setsuna, become her guardians and close companions, with each of their personal growths being tied to their sincere care for her. She lives with Love in the human world, hiding in her room as a doll.
Chiffon undergoes significant development over the course of the series. She begins unable to speak and subsisting only on Cure Vitan. As the story progresses, she transitions to eating baby food and eventually begins to speak, starting with the names of the four Cures. Her growth is closely linked to the appearance of the four Pickruns, each milestone representing a new stage in her development. The major turning point in her story is the revelation of her true identity. As the executives of the evil organization Labyrinth collect the Fuko Gauge, a device that measures despair, Chiffon begins to transform into her true form, Infinity. It is revealed that she is not originally from the Sweets Kingdom but arrived in a meteor carrying the Clover Box, an artifact of great power. The leader of Labyrinth, Moebius, seeks Infinity as the infinite memory, a god-like entity capable of controlling parallel worlds. When Chiffon awakens into Infinity, she becomes a silent, motionless being with a blank expression and a hollow voice, simply repeating a mantra about being infinite memory. In this state, she becomes a tool for Moebius. After being kidnapped and forcibly awakened, she is ultimately saved by the combined efforts of the Pretty Cures and their allies, who use the power of their love in the Clover Box to restore her to her original baby fairy form. During the final battle, she uses her powers one last time to shield everyone from a self-destruct attempt. Following the conclusion of the conflict, she returns to live in the Sweets Kingdom with Tart.
