Description
Makina Hoshimura, a 16-year-old murdered alongside her family during an attack by the undead Seven Stars (Shichisei) that destroyed her village, became a target due to her family's discovery of the Corpse Princess (Shikabane Hime) creation process. Resurrected as an undead entity through intense regret and obsession, she was discovered bound at the scene by Keisei Tagami, an orphan her family raised. Guided by Sougen Takamine, she immediately demanded Keisei become her Contracted Monk to pursue vengeance against the Seven Stars.

As a Shikabane Hime contracted to the Kougon Sect—a secret society of Buddhist monks fighting rogue undead (Shikabane)—her mission requires eliminating 108 Shikabane to enter heaven, though her personal drive remains avenging her family. She wields dual Ingram MAC-11 machine pistols and possesses formidable combat skills. Her indefinite regeneration ability heals severe injuries, including lost limbs; this power intensified after Keisei's death due to a curse tied to her lingering attachment to him.

Physically, she appears as a tall, pale-skinned teenager with long violet hair styled in two braids tied by red ribbons at the rear and dark blue eyes. Standing 151 centimeters tall and weighing 48 kilograms, she typically wears a Japanese high school sailor uniform (seifuku). She has also been seen in a long grey sweater and baseball cap during missions, and a soft white kimono during training at Mount Goryo.

Her personality is cold, distant, and often stern or grumpy, particularly toward outsiders. She initially exhibits protectiveness only toward Keisei, viewing him as the most important person in her existence and the sole individual she readily accepts—a bond rooted in their pre-death relationship. Frequent nightmares force her to relive her death. She fights with ruthless dedication to her mission and vengeance. Upon encountering Ouri Kagami, Keisei's adopted younger brother, she reacts harshly, attempting to push him away to shield him from her dangerous world.

After Keisei sacrifices himself—transferring their contract's glowing red seal to Ouri before dying—Makina refuses to accept Ouri as her new Contracted Monk. Despite her resistance, Ouri eventually becomes her new partner. While Makina held romantic feelings for Keisei, he viewed her platonically as a sister. Her relationship with Ouri evolves into a significant bond, with others noting mutual feelings developing between them. A pivotal moment occurs when Ouri convinces her she is not truly dead because she fights to stay alive, suggesting a shift in her self-perception and acceptance of their partnership.

Her background includes belonging to one of the ten Great Holy Families. She enjoys starry skies, miso soup with cabbage, and corn potage sticks, while disliking centipedes, strong odors, and drunks. Her mundane but notable skills include opening locked doors with her legs, aligning cherry stems using her mouth, and mental arithmetic.
