Description
Birdy Cephon Altera, a bio-engineered Ixioran Altan supersoldier, serves as a Space Federation Police officer. Hailing from Alta, her combat-engineered origins include upbringing by Violin, a marionette maternal figure, until a terrorist attack on the Central Tower shattered her childhood. Witnessing Violin’s sacrificial death against a Berserker unit ignited Birdy’s vengeful fury, destroying the unit and branding her the "Berserker Killer"—a title contrasting her preference for non-lethal tactics in select narratives.

Undercover on Earth as Shion Arita, a bubbly idol-model with dyed brown hair, she hunts intergalactic criminals. A mission gone awry results in her accidentally killing Tsutomu Senkawa, a human student, compelling her to merge their consciousnesses within her body. This uneasy symbiosis demands secrecy as they navigate shared control, balancing friction and cooperation.

Enhanced physiology grants Birdy superhuman strength, speed, and resilience, enabling city-block leaps and survival under artillery fire. She morphs her appearance or attire at will, often impersonating Tsutomu. The Q-body organelle within her triggers a volatile, near-unstoppable mutation during extreme duress, though it risks失控. Her acute olfactory senses excel in tracking targets but falter in rain.

Energetic and blunt, Birdy’s temper and social clumsiness fuel comedic mishaps, yet her sharp intellect and unwavering justice drive her to shield civilians, even defying orders. Continuities diverge: some depict her staunch avoidance of lethal force, others a pragmatic acceptance when necessary. This moral rigidity sparks clashes with Federation authority, pushing alliances with rogues like the criminal Gomez.

Her bond with Nataru Shinmoyu, a childhood friend and Altan refugee harboring shadows, wavers between romance and turmoil as Nataru spirals into vengeful instability. Meanwhile, Birdy and Tsutomu oscillate between bickering and reliance, jointly combating threats like the parasitic Ryunka while negotiating their fused existence.

Across adaptations, Birdy grapples with identity and duty. The manga "Evolution" sees prolonged fusion with Tsutomu forcing her into stasis to prevent mental dominance. Arcs expose Federation corruption, rendering her a fugitive as she aligns with foes to uphold ethics. The Decode anime heightens her internal rift—loyalty to the Federation versus Earth’s protection—culminating in battles against existential threats like Ryunka and confrontations with ghosts from her past.
