Hyōga, revived by Tsukasa Shishio, initially served as a high-ranking member of the Tsukasa Empire. He possesses a tall, athletic build, short white hair, and dark purple eyes, often seen with a squinting expression. After initial depetrification, he concealed scarring around his mouth and nose with a black mask; these scars healed completely after later revivals. His attire typically featured a feathered neckpiece, tan gloves, a black cloak, and knee-high boots.
He champions a strict social Darwinist ideology, believing the world must be purged of those he deems "unenlightened" or lacking exceptional skills. Hyōga categorizes humanity into "strong" and "weak," viewing the petrification event as an opportunity to eliminate the latter. Despite this elitism, he respects individuals demonstrating competence or strategic prowess, calling their actions "proper." He maintains a calm, analytical demeanor even under pressure, yet displays ruthlessness towards subordinates, sacrificing them without hesitation to test hazards like sulfur gas.
As a fighter, Hyōga masters the *kudayari* spear using the Kan style, a technique employing twisting motions for unpredictable thrusts. This allows him to counter multiple opponents simultaneously, though his effectiveness wanes without specialized equipment. His combat style prioritizes speed, technique, and reach over raw strength. He is also a tactical genius, capable of devising distractions—such as ordering Homura to burn Ishigami Village—and pinpointing opponents' weaknesses mid-battle.
Within the Tsukasa Empire, Hyōga participated in attacks on Ishigami Village, battling warriors like Kinro, Kohaku, and Magma. During these skirmishes, he uncovered Gen Asagiri's betrayal, resulting in his spear being sabotaged. He later betrayed Tsukasa himself, exploiting Tsukasa's reunion with his sister Mirai to stab him and attempt a coup. This culminated in a confrontation where Senku and Tsukasa temporarily allied, defeating Hyōga using electrocution tactics. He was subsequently imprisoned alongside his ally Homura.
Depetrified by Senku during the Treasure Island arc to combat the island's forces, Hyōga evaluated the rival warrior Moz. Finding Moz's values incompatible with his own, he sided with the Kingdom of Science. In their duel, Hyōga asserted that diligent practice could surpass innate talent, defeating Moz using a bamboo-enhanced spear. Both were petrified shortly after, with Hyōga expressing skepticism about being revived due to his perceived threat level.
Revived once more later, Hyōga trained the Kingdom of Science's fighters in modern combat techniques during their voyage to America. He agreed to assist only on the condition that Homura and Moz also be revived as training partners. His involvement included battling alligators in San Francisco and contributing to supply procurement efforts, indicating a pragmatic, monitored integration into the group.
