Yūna Akashi is an athletic student at Mahora Academy, frequently alongside Makie Sasaki, Ako Izumi, and Akira Okōchi in sports clubs. Her father, Professor Akashi, a mage and academy teacher, concealed her magical heritage after her mother Yuko Akashi died on a mission in Megalo-Mesembria. This secrecy resulted in only minimal childhood exposure to magic before her training ceased.
She exhibits a mischievous and laid-back personality with a noted weakness for TV shopping channel products. A defining trait is her intense attachment to her father, characterized as an Electra complex, leading to jealousy towards women interacting with him and lighthearted declarations of becoming his bride. Despite her easygoing exterior, deeper emotional conflicts surface when she learns painful family truths.
Significant development begins during the Mahora Festival's "Mages vs. Mars" event. There, she demonstrates unexpected proficiency wielding dual magic guns to defend the World Tree Plaza against demons, earning the nickname "The Kid" and fourth place. Her combat skills gain recognition among the academy's martial artists, though she remains unaware of the magical reality behind the event.
Stranded in the Magic World during a field trip with Makie, they survive harsh conditions, working as waitresses to fund travel before reuniting with Negi Springfield. Learning of pactios, Yūna actively pursues a contract with Negi. After discovering her mother's fate and her father's magical identity—partially suspected beforehand—she forms a pactio as Negi's fourteenth provisional partner. Her artifact, *Iris Tormentum*, comprises magic pistols firing specialized bullets: Spirit Transformation Canceling Bullets suppress beastfolk transformations, while Magic Suppression Bullets nullify magic for three minutes per hit. One pistol may have belonged to her mother, explaining her prior aptitude.
In the battle at the Gravekeeper's Palace, she synergizes her artifact with Ako Izumi's magical doping to fend off adversaries. Tasked with retrieving the Great Grand Master Key, she intercepts petrification darts aimed at allies. Under doping effects, she neutralizes many darts but sacrifices herself as a human shield for Makie, resulting in her petrification. She is later freed to participate in awakening Asuna Kagurazaka.
Following these events, she fulfills her mother's last wishes by becoming an agent for Megalo-Mesembria. This role involves global missions, occasionally intersecting with former classmates whom she assists when possible. Her career choice reflects a resolution to her mother's legacy and her own growth beyond her earlier familial fixation.
Physically, she is 161 cm tall and weighs 75.3 kg. Her hair is black in the manga and brown in anime adaptations.
