OVA
Description
Chirico Cuvie is the central figure of the Armored Trooper Votoms saga, and his journey continues in the sequel OVA, Phantom Arc. His background is marked by profound mystery and engineered tragedy. Having no memory of his life before the age of ten, he was raised on the planet Sunsa by adoptive parents who were studying his unusual abilities. This life ended when they were killed during an enemy invasion, an event Chirico survived despite suffering burns that would be fatal to any ordinary human. It is heavily implied that his origins are the result of secret experimentation, with evidence suggesting he may be an artificial human or a genetically engineered Perfect Soldier, created as part of a grander scheme. Enlisting in the Melkian army at the age of sixteen, he became an Armored Trooper pilot and was eventually transferred to the elite Red Shoulder Battalion, where he came under the scrutiny of Colonel Yoran Pailsen, who was fascinated by Chirico's miraculous recuperative powers.
Chirico's personality is defined by a profound and nearly unshakeable stoicism. Shaped by relentless combat, military rigor, and the trauma of his past, he presents an icy, expressionless, and emotionally detached exterior to the world. Often described as being more mechanical than the artificial beings he encounters, his perpetual blank expression is a testament to his years of survival in a hostile galaxy. Beneath this detached exterior, however, lies a core of intense determination, earning him the title of The Untouchable. He is a survivor above all else, possessing a single-minded focus that allows him to push through any obstacle, but he is not without a hidden piece of humanity that can sometimes surface in his actions.
His primary motivation throughout his life has shifted from simple survival to an active quest for truth. Initially a loyal soldier, he was betrayed by his own military and left for dead, transforming him into a fugitive hunted by vast conspiracies. This betrayal drives him to uncover the lies that surround him, leading him on a galaxy-spanning journey to find his destiny and understand the true nature of his existence. This journey is deeply intertwined with his connection to Fyana, a female Perfect Soldier he discovered in a mysterious capsule, whose enigmatic presence becomes his sole clue to unraveling the treacherous schemes against him. In Phantom Arc, his role becomes that of a legend whose past and influence the main characters seek to understand. While the story focuses on his old allies Vanilla, Cocona, and Gotho retracing their steps in the hopes of reuniting with the elusive Chirico, his legacy looms large over their journey, with the characters reflecting on the hardships and adventures they shared.
Throughout his long history, Chirico has formed key relationships with a small but loyal group of comrades. Despite his aloof and solitary nature, he found fleeting but genuine camaraderie with the black marketeer Vanilla Varta, the brash and profit-driven Cocona, and the wily arms dealer Bouleuse Gotho, who became something of a father figure to him. His most significant relationship is with Fyana, whose love gradually helps him move away from his initial tendency toward a Roaring Rampage of Revenge and toward a path of protecting others. His development is a slow, tragic arc from a programmed soldier to a man who defies his engineered fate. Confronted with the revelation that he was groomed to succeed Wiseman, a godlike ancient AI manipulating the galaxy, Chirico ultimately rejects this inheritance. Instead of accepting ultimate power, he chooses to destroy Wiseman, an act of profound defiance that solidifies his commitment to free will over predestination.
Chirico possesses a set of notable abilities that border on the supernatural. His most defining trait is his incredible stamina and resourcefulness, making him a supreme survivor who escapes situations that would guarantee the death of anyone else. He is an immensely skilled Armored Trooper pilot, able to make hundreds of kills and achieve victories against overwhelming odds. He also possesses a rapid healing factor that allows him to recover from severe injuries, such as gunshot wounds and broken bones, in a remarkably short amount of time, a direct result of his engineered heritage as an Overman. Combined with his superhuman reflexes, pain tolerance, and what seems to be an uncanny level of luck, Chirico Cuvie is portrayed as an individual who simply cannot be stopped, making him a singular and indomitable force in the Astragius Galaxy.
