Description
The Phoenix, a mythical avian entity, symbolizes the eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth, operating beyond human notions of morality. It vigilantly maintains the natural order, observing mortal realms with detachment and intervening only when cosmic equilibrium is threatened. Its blood, coveted for granting immortality, invariably spawns tragedy when harvested, as such acts fracture the cyclical harmony it preserves.

During Prince Oguna’s campaign against the Kumaso tribe, the Phoenix manifests to test his resolve. Desperate to avert his father’s retainers from ritual sacrifice, Oguna bargains for its blood, seeking to defy destiny. The Phoenix demands the assassination of Kumaso’s chieftain Takeru, binding Oguna’s fate to ideals of duty and sacrifice. Yet even with the blood’s power, Oguna cannot avert the ritual’s culmination. Buried alive, he channels the Phoenix’s gift to sustain fellow entombed souls, his failure illustrating the futility of resisting immutable natural laws.

Beyond temporal boundaries, the Phoenix enforces karmic justice across epochs. It punishes mortals who transgress natural order—cursing them with eternal suffering for past hubris—and exposes humanity’s recurring folly in seeking dominion over life and death. Its interventions, though rare, unravel mortal obsessions, laying bare the repercussions of defiance.

Resembling a Fenghuang in splendor, the Phoenix transcends mere aesthetics, embodying impermanence and the interdependence of all existence. Neither ally nor adversary, it reflects humanity’s ceaseless grappling with mortality and legacy. Each encounter with mortals sparks introspection, compelling them to confront their fragility within the boundless weave of cosmic cycles.
