Description
The Phoenix is a mythical firebird resembling a large peacock or Fenghuang, visually inspired by Soviet animation, particularly the firebird in *The Humpbacked Horse*. Its blood is believed to grant eternal life, making it the target of relentless pursuit across eras, though true immortality proves unattainable or is portrayed as a curse.

In *The Phoenix: Chapter of Dawn*, the creature inhabits a volcano near a village in ancient Japan (circa 240 CE). Queen Himiko of Yamatai seeks its lifeblood for immortality, dispatching her general Sarutahiko to invade the region. Sarutahiko enslaves a village boy, Nagi, tasking him with capturing the Phoenix. The bird remains elusive throughout the conflict, often seen fleeing volcanic eruptions or soaring above the landscape. Its presence is passive; it does not actively intervene in human affairs, serving instead as a silent witness to the violence and moral struggles.

Symbolizing the natural cycle of life, death, and rebirth, the Phoenix contrasts humanity's destructive obsession with circumventing this cycle through unnatural immortality. Its blood represents an unattainable ideal, driving characters like Sarutahiko and Himiko to betrayal, massacre, and personal ruin. Even after Sarutahiko bonds with Nagi and rebels against Yamatai, the Phoenix's influence persists as a reminder of the quest's futility.

The creature's physical appearances are fleeting, often framed by natural cataclysms, reinforcing its role as an elemental force rather than a conventional character. It is depicted in flight during volcanic eruptions, emphasizing its connection to primordial forces and indifference to human suffering.
