Description
Suikakujū acts as a primary antagonist throughout multiple narrative iterations. Aligned with Genyo, the Queen of Demons, as her high-ranking champion, his core mission is preventing the emergence of the Chōjin (Overfiend). He believes its prophesied unification of the three realms would cause catastrophic destruction, not peace.
In the original anime timeline, Suikakujū spent decades thwarting the prophecy. His early intervention took him to Tokyo in 1923 with his concubine Fukakuki. Disguised human, he orchestrated the Great Kantō earthquake by summoning the sea demon Maō. Amano Jyaku confronted him during this event, severing Suikakujū's right leg and half his face.
Centuries later, learning the Chōjin manifested within Tatsuo Nagumo, Suikakujū re-entered the human world. He tasked his agent Satsuki with transforming the resentful human Yūichi Niki into a weapon against Nagumo. Suikakujū personally engaged Amano Jyaku in combat, warning of the Chōjin's destructive true nature. This battle devastated his body.
Fukakuki retrieved one surviving horn and implanted it into Niki's corpse. Using demonic rituals, she resurrected Suikakujū within Niki's body, though he remained severely weakened due to the body's prior damage. To regain strength, Suikakujū absorbed the life force and power of Fukakuki and another concubine, Enkakuki, killing them. Following Nagumo's transformation into the Demon of Destruction and the worlds merging, Suikakujū attempted another summoning of Maō. Nagumo counterattacked, destroying Maō and fatally impaling Suikakujū on debris. With his dying breath, he urged Amano Jyaku to kill the Chōjin.
Decades after his death, the antagonist Münchhausen II manipulated Suikakujū's sister Yoenki into believing Amano Jyaku caused his demise, prompting her quest for vengeance.
Narrative remakes present variations. Suikakujū is depicted engaging in prolonged conflicts with Amano Jyaku during his search for the Chōjin. In the early 2000s, under Genyo's orders to eliminate Amano Jyaku (protecting potential Chōjin candidate Norikazu Ozaki), he was confronted by Genyo's daughter, Seigenki. When she questioned her mother's motives, Suikakujū raped her, asserting Genyo sanctioned his actions.
A notable divergence exists between manga and anime portrayals. The manga depicts him as a straightforward villain lacking nuanced motivations. The anime frames him as a Well-Intentioned Extremist, driven by conviction that brutal actions like the Great Kantō earthquake are necessary to preserve all three realms from annihilation.
