Suppaman, also known as Sourman in the FUNimation Dub of Dragon Ball, hails from the planet Okakaumeboshi. In his civilian life, he works as a reporter under the alias Kenta Kuraaku—a reversal of Clark Kent—reflecting his role as a parody of Superman. He transforms by consuming a pickled plum, referred to as a sour plum or vinegar plum, rather than through conventional means. After transforming, he moves by lying belly-down on a skateboard and rolling through the streets.
His stated mission is to protect the world, though he lacks genuine superpowers or a real sense of justice. Instead, his actions are motivated by a desire for reputation and the appearance of heroism. He displays cowardice in the face of enemies and can act with violence toward innocent villagers, often responding to annoyances by launching grenades. He is easily offended by mockery.
During his early years on Planet Okakaumeboshi, he attended preschool with Bubibinman and earned the nickname "Supercrybaby" due to his timid nature. In grade school, he was known as "Suppa-Mouth" or "Suppa-chan the Piggy" because of his large appetite.
Within the narrative of Dr. Slump, he frequently appears in Penguin Village. In early appearances, he watches Senbei Norimaki from a clothing store and is seen flying naked through a vision induced by See-Thru Glasses. He attempts to impress Arale Norimaki and Gatchan and defeats Arale in a game of rock paper scissors. Later, in his Kenta Kuraaku identity, he attempts to rob the Penguin Village Bank but is stopped by Arale. A personal moment reveals his girlfriend leaving him for someone with a nicer car.
He participates in the Penguin Gran Prix race using his skateboard as a vehicle. He later establishes the Planetary Defense Academy and recruits Arale, Gatchan, and Oinkety Oink to protect Earth. However, during a battle against Dr. Mashirito and Caramel Man 003, he defects to the antagonist side, though the Planetary Defense Academy ultimately prevails. In a subsequent story, his house is taken by Obotchaman, who relocates it physically, forcing Suppaman to live in a tent.
In the film "Dr. Slump Arale-chan: N-cha!! Trembling Heart of the Summer," he visits a haunted castle summer resort and falls into the clutches of a female vampire named Vandora.
Outside Dr. Slump, he appears in the spin-off "Tomato, Girl Detective" as the antagonist Kenta Kuraaku, suspected of bank robberies and taking hostages before being arrested by the heroine. He also crosses over into Dragon Ball, where he encounters General Blue. After transforming and failing to intimidate Blue, he becomes loyal to him, providing his car and information about an airplane at Senbei's house. He makes a cameo among the contestants at the World Martial Arts Tournament.
His video game appearances include "Dr. Slump Arale Part III: Ncha! Bycha," a PlayStation game based on the 1997 remake, "Super Dragon Ball Z," where he is seen rolling on his skateboard after a telephone booth is destroyed, "Dragon Ball Z: Bakuretsu Impact" as an assisting character, "Dr. Slump: Arale-Chan," and the card game "Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle."
