Movie
Description
Hailing from the superhero planet Okakaumeboshi, Suppaman (or Sourman) operates on Earth under the secret identity Kenta Kuraaku, a reporter whose name parodies Superman's Clark Kent. His transformation involves consuming a pickled plum and changing clothes in a phone booth, a process that grants no actual superpowers.

Appearing short and overweight, Suppaman mimics flight by lying prone on a skateboard. The Japanese hiragana character "す" (su), meaning "sour", adorns his chest. His personality is cowardly and self-serving, primarily concerned with his heroic reputation over true justice. He reacts with hostility to civilians, often responding violently to minor annoyances by throwing grenades.

During the "Dr. Slump: Hoyoyo! Space Adventure" mission to rescue Midori Yamabuki, Suppaman participates, aligning with his tendency for self-preservation. In the Penguin Village Wars storyline, he founds the Planetary Defense Academy only to betray it and join Dr. Mashirito's side, showcasing his recurring disloyalty.

His background includes growing up on Okakaumeboshi, where preschool earned him the nickname "Supercrybaby" for his timidity. Grade school peers called him "Suppa-Mouth" or "Suppa-chan the Piggy" due to his appetite. Later life in Penguin Village features repeated failures: losing his girlfriend to a wealthier man and having his house stolen by Obotchaman, forcing him into a tent.

Beyond the film, Suppaman appears attempting bank robberies and in Dragon Ball cameos, cowering before antagonists like General Blue. Video games feature him fleetingly during combat. He exhibits minor abilities, like breaking one clay tile (while injuring his hand) and performing the "Finger of Courage" gag involving feces. A non-canonical Super Saiyan-like form in an OVA lacks comparable power.

Creator Akira Toriyama initially conceived Suppaman as a manga protagonist before Dr. Slump, but the pitch was rejected for being "an idiot" unfit as a lead. Suppaman consistently parodies superhero tropes, emphasizing incompetence and vanity over heroism.
