TV-Series
Description
Ryujinmaru begins as the spirit of the Gold Dragon, a Dragon God from Shinbukai. This spiritual essence fuses with a clay sculpture crafted by Wataru Ikusabe, birthing a sentient, humanoid dragon-mecha. This merged being becomes Wataru's steadfast partner across journeys through Soukaizan and other realms.
Its standard form displays a blue body frame with white appendages, blue feet and wrists, and a golden crown-like headpiece bearing three elongated horns. A large red jewel on the forehead serves as the cockpit entry. Inside, the cockpit manifests a cosmic space where Ryujinmaru's true dragon form resides visibly as Wataru pilots from its head. Throughout its adventures, Ryujinmaru achieves multiple Super Transformations, each unlocking new elemental powers and weapons. These forms include Shishi Ryujinmaru (Lion), Houou Ryujinmaru (Phoenix), and Gekkou Ryujinmaru (Moonlight).
A key evolution arrives with the fifth Super Transformation: Byakko Ryujinmaru (White Tiger). Activated by the Blue Tiger Magatama from the Glacier Tiger Sage, this form features a white and navy color scheme with tiger-inspired designs. It withstands sub-zero temperatures and wields ice-based attacks. Key armaments are a detachable tail functioning as the Tiger Thunder Whip and razor-sharp shoulder armor usable as claw gauntlets. Later, the Thunder God Helmet—bestowed by spirits Aqua and Marine—infuses its ice attacks with thunder elements. This enhanced form exhausts permanently in Episode 49 after channeling all power to destroy a major antagonist's weapon.
Ryujinmaru's combat techniques evolve across forms. Base attacks feature the Dragon Fang Fist and the signature Soaring Dragon Sword. Elemental variants like the Frigid Dragon Sword (ice) and Blazing Dragon Sword (fire) emerge through external artifacts, though the fire variant risks severe energy depletion. The White Tiger form introduces techniques such as the White Tiger Dragon Sword finisher and Glacier Thunder Strike. In the OVA *The Seven Spirits of Ryujinmaru*, the mecha shatters catastrophically against Dobazudar. Its fragmented spirit then guides Wataru to the inverted world of Mt. Musokai, where reconstruction drives the plot.
Ryujinmaru communicates concisely, often advising Wataru in battle. Its existence transcends mechanics, embodying a profound spiritual bond with Wataru and symbolizing protection across dimensions. This connection persists even when its physical form is compromised, as shown when its spirit guides Wataru after fragmentation.
