Description
Tatsuya Uesugi is the elder twin brother of Kazuya Uesugi, possessing innate athletic talent far exceeding his brother's abilities. He deliberately allows Kazuya to take the spotlight in baseball and other pursuits, driven by an altruistic nature and a reluctance to compete, especially against his twin. This self-effacement extends to suppressing his feelings for their childhood friend and neighbor Minami Asakura; he outwardly supports the perceived relationship between Minami and Kazuya while privately enduring heartbreak.

His personality contrasts with Kazuya's serious and hardworking demeanor. Tatsuya presents as lazy, easy-going, troublesome, sloppy, and blunt. Yet beneath this exterior, he is fundamentally kind, sensitive, and averse to causing hurt or contention. He tends to overthink situations and is vulnerable to pressure. Despite his seemingly unapproachable nature, he maintains friendships, notably with Shohei Harada. Tatsuya finds greater happiness in Kazuya's success and Minami's happiness than in pursuing his own ambitions, content to remain a supportive background figure.

A pivotal moment occurs when Kazuya is killed in a traffic accident the morning before the regional baseball tournament final. This tragedy forces Tatsuya to confront his avoidance of responsibility and competition. He steps into his brother's role as the ace pitcher for Meisei High School, using his latent athletic talent to pursue Kazuya's goal of reaching the national tournament at Koshien, fulfilling a childhood promise to take Minami there.

This decision initiates significant development. Tatsuya had previously avoided joining the high school baseball club, especially after learning Minami was the manager, opting for boxing instead. After Kazuya's death, he dedicates himself to baseball. He navigates the challenges of becoming the ace pitcher on a grieving team while facing skepticism about his abilities and commitment. His journey involves rigorous training, grappling with expectations, and gradually honing his pitching skills, particularly his control. Throughout this, he must also reconcile his long-suppressed feelings for Minami and navigate their evolving relationship.

Decades later, in the sequel series Mix, Tatsuya is married to Minami Asakura. He achieved significant baseball success, coaching Meisei High School to victory in the National High School Baseball Championship at Koshien. This legacy inspires the new generation of players at Meisei, including stepbrothers Touma and Souichirou Tachibana, whose fathers were connected to Tatsuya and Kazuya's era. The Uesugi family dog from Touch, Punch, also appears in Mix, linking the series.
