Description
Bulbasaur, a Grass/Poison-type Pokémon discovered in the Hidden Village sanctuary for abandoned or injured Pokémon, shielded the village as its primary protector. It joined Ash Ketchum's team after Ash defended the village from Team Rocket, with village caretaker Melanie encouraging Bulbasaur to travel with Ash for its growth. Initially distrustful of trainers due to witnessing abandonment, Bulbasaur developed deep loyalty toward Ash.

Exhibiting a serious, responsible, and mature personality, Bulbasaur frequently acts as a peacekeeper. At Professor Oak's laboratory, where it was permanently placed to maintain order, it mediates conflicts, especially between Water-type and Grass-type Pokémon, earning recognition as an ambassador. Its leadership extends to mentoring other Pokémon, like May's Bulbasaur, teaching battle techniques such as Vine Whip coordination.

In battle, Bulbasaur demonstrates tenacity and strategic thinking. Key victories include defeating multiple Exeggutor despite type disadvantages and overcoming Jeanette Fisher's Scyther by targeting the real opponent among Double Team clones. During a Bulbasaur evolutionary festival, it resisted communal pressure to evolve into Ivysaur. Instead, it harnessed solar energy to unleash Solar Beam for the first time, destroying Team Rocket's machinery and saving the evolving Bulbasaur group, earning respect from the festival's Venusaur leader.

Bulbasaur forms significant bonds with other Pokémon. Its closest companion is Squirtle, whose playful nature contrasts with Bulbasaur's seriousness. They collaborate in activities like snowball fights and competitions, with Bulbasaur displaying visible sadness during separations. It shows affection for a Gloom after being healed by its nectar, leading to recurring interactions. Conversely, it antagonizes Heracross for repeatedly draining sap from its bulb, responding aggressively with Vine Whip.

Its capabilities involve versatile vine usage for combat and nurturing: extracting berries from trees and gently comforting distressed Pokémon, such as rocking a crying Pokémon while vocalizing. The bulb on its back stores solar energy, enabling extended survival without food and powering Solar Beam. Bulbasaur sleeps in sunny locations to maximize photosynthesis, exhibiting multiple resting postures.

Following Ash's Orange Islands journey, Bulbasaur resides permanently at Professor Oak's lab. It continues mediating disputes among resident Pokémon and briefly reunites with Ash's team during events like the Silver Conference. During an Alolan school visit, it temporarily displayed fear of Mimikyu's aggressive aura but remained a steadfast guardian.
