Description
Sebastien, an orphaned boy, lives in a small French Pyrenees village near the Spanish border. Abandoned as an infant by his Romani mother, Isabel, due to her community's opposition to her marriage to an outsider who died before Sebastien's birth, he was discovered and adopted by Cecil, an elderly mountain hunter. Cecil raised Sebastien alongside his biological grandchildren, Anne-Marie and Paul, with Anne-Marie acting as an overprotective older sister figure.
Throughout his childhood, Sebastien faces persistent bullying from village children because of his Roma heritage and orphan status, shaping his early years with a deep longing to find his mother and gain acceptance. His life changes when he encounters Belle, a large white Pyrenean Mountain Dog wrongly accused of being a dangerous "monster." Recognizing Belle as another misunderstood outcast, Sebastien forms an immediate bond and shelters her from those seeking to capture or kill her.
To protect Belle and pursue his quest to find Isabel, Sebastien leaves his adoptive family. He flees across the Pyrenees into Spain with Belle and his small puppy, Poochie, who often rides in his pocket. During this journey, he faces challenges including evading law enforcement led by Inspector Garcia, encountering criminals like Hernandez and Fernandez, and navigating harsh landscapes. Despite hardships, he consistently demonstrates resourcefulness, resilience, and a strong moral compass, often helping others.
A significant relationship develops with Sarah, a lonely, wealthy, and seriously ill girl living in Spain whom Sebastien meets early in his travels. They form a close friendship based on mutual loneliness and a desire for companionship, with Sarah later providing crucial assistance. Their bond deepens over time, implying a future romantic relationship. Sebastien also interacts with the traveling Romani performers of the Carlos Company, hoping to find clues about his mother.
His search for Isabel drives the narrative, with encounters gradually revealing her circumstances: she is a talented singer and performer traveling with the Carlos Company, unaware of Sebastien's survival. The journey culminates in their emotional reunion. By the series' conclusion, Sebastien successfully clears Belle's name, proving her gentleness to the villagers. He achieves stability, with Isabel choosing to stay with him permanently. His relationship with Sarah evolves into a committed partnership, suggesting they eventually marry as adults, with Belle remaining part of their lives.
