Description
Todomatsu Matsuno is one of six identical sextuplet brothers, his name derived from the Japanese term for the Abies fir tree, "todomatsu." While early media left his birth order unclear, later works, notably the 2015-2018 spin-off, firmly establish him as the youngest.
As a child, Todomatsu is easily flustered, clumsy, and touchy. He displays a belligerent streak, frequently complaining when upset by situations caused by his brothers or himself. He participates in group activities and joins in bullying Chibita, though he often loses one-on-one fights due to limited strength. He shares his brothers' love of food and can be lured by it. His hobbies include playing marbles and building model airplanes with Jyushimatsu. He dislikes the heat of public baths, which makes him dizzy, and avoids unnecessary bathing. He typically has minimal savings, ranging from 30 to 70 yen. Childhood stories show him becoming insecure when overlooked, like when Osomatsu forgets his name, prompting him to repeatedly insist, "I'm Todomatsu!" He also exhibits entrepreneurial tendencies, such as converting the family kitchen into "Todomatsu's Restaurant" and charging family members to eat. Visually indistinguishable from his brothers as a child, later media assigns him yellow or orange theme colors.
As a teenager, Todomatsu remains virtually identical to his brothers until around age 16. By 18, he is notably shorter with a more youthful, feminine appearance featuring flushed cheeks, larger pupils, and a cat-like mouth. His smaller frame makes his high school uniform fit loosely. Personality-wise, he becomes more openly childish, clingy, and dependent on his older brothers. He feels insecure and frightened when alone, often crying if separated. An encounter with his adult self hints at his future development of a "popular" persona, leveraging perceived cuteness to manipulate others, marking a shift from dependence towards independence. Anxiety about his future, particularly around graduation, also catalyzes his later self-centered tendencies.
In adulthood, Todomatsu adopts a distinctive look with larger, shinier pupils, a small cat-like mouth, and pink hair highlights. He favors light pink clothing, often wearing a brown beanie with a hoodie or a white dress shirt with a pink tie, shorts, and a boater hat. His personality evolves into an effeminate, trend-conscious persona, contrasting with Karamatsu's outdated style. This grants him fleeting popularity with women, including casual dates and flirtations. His brothers resent this success, sometimes excluding him for not fitting their "virgin NEET" identity. His relationships with women typically end quickly due to his negative traits, external interference, or revelations of his true nature.
Beneath his cute exterior lies a two-faced and manipulative personality. He often pretends not to know his brothers to avoid embarrassment, ignoring Osomatsu during a date or shunning them in front of female acquaintances at Sutabaa. This duplicity extends to family, as when he manipulates his mother during a custody interview by feigning independence to win her favor. He also feigns affection for Ichimatsu's ESP Kitty, intending to sell it for money. His self-serving actions sometimes lead to severe consequences, including temporary expulsion from the group and replacement by Michaelmatsu after his dating life conflicts with their "NEET" image. He responds with extreme measures, returning from America with shotguns to confront his brothers before eventually reintegrating.
Regarding relationships, Todomatsu and Karamatsu are frequently paired as children, appearing together in manga stories and anime episodes. Common themes involve Todomatsu becoming upset with Karamatsu for leading them into trouble or absurd behavior. Specific collaborative instances include serving grilled corn or participating in classroom scenes and family activities.
The OVA "Iyami wa Hitori Kaze no Naka" focuses on Iyami's storyline.
