Description
A red dragon roughly 300 years old, Laika first appears in draconic form to challenge Azusa Aizawa, the Witch of the Highlands, drawn by rumors of her power. Their confrontation results in Laika accidentally damaging Azusa's house and suffering a decisive defeat. This humbling experience prompts Laika to abandon her former arrogance. She requests to become Azusa's disciple, offering to repair the destruction, and subsequently moves in, typically adopting human form for daily life.

In human guise, Laika resembles a youthful girl sporting chin-length ginger hair in a bob cut and rose hip-colored eyes. Two black horns protrude backward from either side of her head. Her standard attire features a white puff-shoulder blouse with a standing collar tied by a black ribbon, a double-breasted apron dress revealing a white petticoat underneath, black tights or stockings, and distinctive red bulldog toe boots. As a waitress, she dons a uniform frequently complimented for its cuteness. She retains the ability to shift between dragon and human forms at will, usually concealing her tail in human form. Her dragon form varies dramatically in scale, from a size capable of long-distance flight with expansive wings down to a minimized version approximately the size of a dog, enabling her to fit through windows.

Laika embodies earnestness, honesty, and a formidable work ethic. Following her defeat, she embraces humility and demonstrates conscientiousness, particularly in household management and cooking. She flusters easily when praised, especially about her uniformed appearance. While generally respectful and polite, she harbors inherent hostility toward the rival Blue Dragon tribe, an animosity that later evolves into a playful rivalry after Azusa brokers a peace treaty. Her creativity is limited, resulting in awkward song lyrics and misshapen handmade crafts. Her culinary skills are highly developed, specializing in well-seasoned omelets and various sweets, though she initially cooked excessively large portions before adapting to human-scale meals. She avoids celery despite generally eating vegetables and exhibits a strong preference for meat-based dishes.

As a red dragon, Laika possesses innate capabilities including fire-breathing, flight in dragon form, and significant physical strength. Shape-shifting consumes substantial mana, limiting her spellcasting capacity despite theoretical magical knowledge. She displays proficiency in constructing protective magic circles and exceptional talent in chess, once securing second place in an "Under 200 Years Old" tournament. Her dragon physiology grants heat resistance but an aversion to cold. Within the household, she handles primary cooking duties, utilizing controlled fire-breathing for precise heating.

In the spin-off novel "Red Dragon Girl Academy," Laika attends a specialized academy focused on combat training. Upon enrollment, she experiments with club activities and gains recognition as a "once-in-50-years genius." Over her academic career, she grows her hair to a semi-long style conforming to school norms, develops leadership capabilities, and forms meaningful friendships despite initial discomfort with attention. She progresses through student council roles from secretary to acting president and eventually vice president. Her journey culminates in defeating her previously undefeated older sister Leila, the student council president, earning her the nickname "Laika the Honest" by her third year.

Laika addresses Azusa with the honorific "-sama," forging a strong sisterly bond and viewing her as an older sibling. She maintains a rivalry with the blue dragon girl Flatorte, shifting from physical confrontations to friendly contests like cookie baking. Her family includes parents and older sister Leila, residing near Rokko Volcano; she cares deeply for them and participates in significant events like Leila's wedding. At the academy, she gradually earns admiration from juniors for her strength and appearance, though she remains self-conscious about being remembered for her uniformed looks. Her relationship with the slime spirit twins Falfa and Shalsha involves protective and mentoring dynamics.
