Description
Saya, a recurring character hailing from an eastern nation, begins as a self-doubting apprentice witch haunted by loneliness after her younger sister, Mina, surpasses her in magic exams and departs without her. Stranded in the Land of Mages, she toils at an inn while preparing for retests, where she crosses paths with Elaina. Desperate for connection, Saya engineers a collision to seize Elaina’s witch brooch, leveraging the incident to secure her company and magic tutelage—a ploy driven by fear of abandonment rather than malice.

Her attachment to Elaina deepens into fervent admiration, marked by gifts of paired necklaces, public love declarations etched onto the Traveler’s Wall, and relentless marriage proposals. Though rebuffed, Saya’s devotion persists, manifesting in clinginess and cherished keepsakes like Elaina’s spare hat.

Under Elaina’s guidance, Saya hones her magic, earning her witch title as the “Charcoal Witch”—a deliberate echo of Elaina’s “Ashen Witch”—and joins the United Magic Association under mentor Sheila. Mastering fire, water, and lightning spells, she proves capable in combat, aiding Elaina against adversaries in the Land of Truth Tellers.

While Saya evolves from reliance to autonomy, her romantic fixation endures. She abandons her inn job to trail Elaina, interprets letters as omens of her presence, and upholds a veneer of altruism, aiding strangers despite her single-minded passion.

Born on March 8 (a nod to the Japanese pun “sa” for 3, “ya” for 8), Saya despises mushrooms and hoards Elaina-linked trinkets. Her journey paints her as tenacious yet tender-hearted, straddling earnest growth and undying affection across her trials.
