Description
Meyrin Hawke, born alongside her sister Lunamaria on a PLANT colony, joined ZAFT with her. Serving as the youngest communications controller (CIC officer) on the battleship Minerva, Meyrin supervised mobile suit operations and communications. Her technical expertise covered multi-tasking tactical coordination, mobile suit deployment, and hacking systems, alongside proficiency with firearms.
Naturally shy and reserved, Meyrin contrasted with Lunamaria's outgoing personality. She maintained friendships but stayed closest to her sister, harboring an inferiority complex towards her. Both sisters admired Lacus Clyne and held a one-sided romantic interest in Athrun Zala, though Meyrin's reserve prevented her from expressing her feelings.
When ZAFT framed Athrun as a traitor, Meyrin concealed him in her quarters during a security sweep, answering the door wrapped in a towel to deflect suspicion. She then hacked base security to facilitate his escape to a mobile suit hangar. Their attempted escape in a ZGMF-2000 GOUF Ignited was intercepted by Rey Za Burrel and Shinn Asuka, resulting in the mobile suit's destruction. Meyrin chose to flee with Athrun. Both were presumed dead and falsely labeled Logos agents by Gilbert Durandal.
Rescued by Ledonir Kisaka and brought aboard the Archangel, Meyrin recovered from injuries and assisted the convalescing Athrun. She insisted on remaining with him during battles, explicitly requesting not to be abandoned. Her loyalty extended to joining Athrun, Kira Yamato, and Lacus Clyne on a mission to Copernicus City. There, she protected Lacus during an ambush, intercepting a grenade aimed at her. She later participated in Meer Campbell's funeral.
Transferred as CIC officer to the Eternal during the Battle of Messiah, Meyrin contacted Lunamaria as she prepared to attack the ship. Revealing her survival, Meyrin convinced her sister to stand down, emphasizing their familial bond and exposing Durandal's manipulations, preventing Lunamaria from engaging Eternal forces.
Post-war, Meyrin reconciled with Lunamaria and Shinn Asuka at the Onogoro Island memorial. She returned to PLANTs with them and rejoined ZAFT. Later, she aligned with Athrun in the black ops unit Terminal (Compass). Piloting a Cavalier Aifrid support unit, she aided Athrun's infiltration missions into the Foundation Kingdom. During the Foundation Conflict, she rescued survivors from the Archangel's destruction, retrieved Athrun's submerged mobile suit to evade nuclear detonations, and supported operations freeing Lacus Clyne from Foundation forces. This included infiltrating Artemis to secure bulkheads and transporting Lacus to safety.
Her relationship with Lunamaria evolved from romantic rivalry over Athrun to reconciliation, with Meyrin ultimately gaining her sister's acceptance to remain with Athrun's unit. Her bond with Athrun transitioned from a crush to a partnership of mutual reliance; she openly challenged his decisions when necessary, such as insisting Lacus participate in combat operations. Cagalli Yula Athha entrusted Meyrin with Athrun's safety during her absences.
In compilation films retelling the series events, including the Special Edition, Meyrin's role remained consistent with her television portrayal.
