Roddy Shuffle is a 14-year-old male with black hair and petrol-colored eyes, serving as one of the narrative's main protagonists. Amid the chaotic evacuation of the human colony Clayad during an alien attack in 2058, Roddy was one of 13 children separated from their parents. The group escaped aboard the training combat spacecraft Janous.

They sought refuge at Belwick, another planet in the Ypserlon system, only to find its colony destroyed. Forced to rely on themselves, Roddy and the others learned to pilot the ship's advanced VIFAM mecha and collectively decided to journey back to Earth.

During their voyage, the group encountered a damaged alien ship and its pilot, a member of the hostile Astrogater race. From this, they learned one of the 13 children was an alien and that their parents had been taken captive to the artificial satellite Tuat, orbiting the Astrogater home planet Kukto. After numerous battles and assistance from Earth military forces, the group reached Tuat. One child was captured there but discovered a rebel faction among the Astrogaters; with their help, the child escaped and freed other prisoners, revealing that their parents had been moved to the planet Kukto itself.
