Description
Hiroshi Shiba is a professional race car driver and motorcycle racer prominent in Japan, Italy, and Latin America. Critically injured in a laboratory accident, he was saved by cybernetic enhancements implanted by his father, Professor Shiba, who also embedded a powerful bronze bell artifact from the ancient Yamatai Kingdom within Hiroshi's body. Hiroshi remained unaware of this transformation until a later racing incident revealed his enhanced durability when he survived severe impacts unharmed. These cybernetics grant him abilities including survival in vacuum conditions without breathing and resilience against significant physical trauma.
After agents of Queen Himika, ruler of the Yamatai Kingdom, murdered his father, Hiroshi learned of his role as a defender against her forces. He operates as a cyborg capable of two transformations: shouting "Change Cyborg!" while bumping his fists activates armored body armor, granting superhuman strength, speed, and durability. While armored, shouting "Build Up!" transforms him into the head component of the modular robot Kotetsu Jeeg. He combines with magnetic parts delivered by the aircraft Big Shooter to form the complete fighting machine Jeeg, which battles Yamatai's robotic "Haniwa Phantom Gods" and other threats.
Hiroshi exhibits a hot-blooded, short-tempered personality common among his allies but struggles with self-doubt regarding his cybernetic nature and societal perceptions. He resented his father's prior neglect of their family due to his scientific work, though he eventually accepted his legacy as Jeeg. After his father's death, he serves as a protector for his mother and younger sister. His relationships include a friendly rivalry with fellow pilot Koji Kabuto, mentorship toward the droid racer Mitsuko, and a close, sibling-like bond with Big Shooter's pilot, Miwa Uzuki.
In later events, Hiroshi confronted Queen Himika in a climactic battle that trapped both within the time-distorting energy field "The Zone" for 50 years. After emerging, he assisted a new generation of defenders, including the successor Jeeg pilot Kenji Kusanagi and Miwa's granddaughter Tsubaki. He participated in the final defeat of the revived Yamatai Kingdom forces, demonstrating his enduring commitment to protecting humanity.
His abilities include expert driving and racing skills, enhanced durability, and mastery of Jeeg's modular weaponry such as the Spin Storm chest blaster, Rocket Punch attacks, and specialized equipment like the centaur-like Panzeroid horse module. Jeeg's versatility allows adaptation to combat scenarios through interchangeable magnetic parts, though the robot remains vulnerable to electrical interference and magnetic field disruptions.
