OVA
Description
Joe Takagami is the protagonist of the anime, a brilliant computer programmer living and working in Silicon Valley for the powerful Rockford Corporation. He is described as a gifted Japanese computer genius, and there is speculation that he may be in line for a Nobel Prize for his work. His life initially seems idyllic and successful, with a promising career and a girlfriend.

However, Joe’s reality begins to unravel when his girlfriend fails to recognize him, claiming to be a different person. Driven by confusion and a need for answers, he uses his considerable skills to hack into a top-secret computer system. This act uncovers a horrifying truth: his past is a fabrication, a set of false memories implanted in his mind. He soon finds himself hunted by bionic hitmen and betrayed by those he trusted, including his best friend, who kidnaps him at gunpoint.

Joe learns that he is not a normal human but an artificial human, a clone who is barely a year old. He is, in fact, a prototype genetic experiment designed by the conglomerate to be a sleeper agent and a living weapon of mass destruction. Realizing he is a pawn of the corporation that created him, his initial shock and panic give way to a fierce desire for revenge. His primary motivation shifts from survival to the destruction of David Rockford, the CEO of the corporation that engineered his existence.

Personality-wise, Joe is initially portrayed as an innocent and unwitting figure, but his awakening is traumatic and violent. The discovery that his entire life is a lie triggers a temporary state of being a wild, feral beast, acting on pure instinct and rage. He is described as becoming "ax crazy" for a period, violently lashing out at his enemies. Despite this, he ultimately rejects his role as a weapon, choosing to fight against his programming and the corporation that seeks to control him.

In the story of Dark Warrior, Joe serves as both the hunted and the avenger. He is the central figure in a conflict against the Rockford Corporation, a mega-corporation that represents the threat of unchecked genetic manipulation. Throughout his journey, he is joined by a young girl named Aya Lee Rose, who possesses special psychic powers. Together, they stand against the forces of the corporation, forming a key alliance in the fight for their freedom. His other significant relationship is with his best friend, Lloyd, whose betrayal is a pivotal moment in Joe’s transformation from a peaceful programmer into a warrior. His primary antagonist is David Rockford, the head of the corporation who acts as his creator.

Joe possesses notable abilities that are both intellectual and physical. His skills as a computer hacker are exceptional, allowing him to breach high-security systems. However, his most remarkable power is an unpredictable physical transformation. When triggered, he changes into a muscle-bound form with frightening physical strength, capable of defeating genetically engineered soldiers and androids with ease. In this state, he demonstrates immense combat prowess, performing feats such as crushing an enemy's skull with his bare hands. Throughout the OVA, he must learn to control the volatile and destructive powers that rage within him.
