Description
Madoka Mido is a central character in the anime Starship Girl Yamamoto Yohko II, serving primarily as the comic relief of the series. She is introduced as one of the four teenage girls recruited from the late twentieth century by engineer Curtis Lawson to pilot advanced spacecraft for the TERRA faction in a futuristic space war game set in the year 2999. Madoka considers herself a rival to the protagonist Yohko Yamamoto and strives to surpass her in every area, including academics, sports, video gaming, and starship piloting, though she consistently falls short and is regarded as the least competent pilot on the team.

Her personality is a blend of poise and childishness. She carries herself with a certain composure on the surface but is essentially spoiled, happy-go-lucky, and somewhat impetuous. These traits are reflected in her approach to combat: she pilots the Super Sprint TA-25, a ship equipped with a powerful Vapour Shield, which she frequently uses as a battering ram rather than a defensive device, acting on impulse rather than strategy. Madoka also displays a mild otaku side, such as dressing as a zombie for a costume party to make an impact, and she develops a strong romantic infatuation with Yohsuke, a clone of Yohko who appears later in the story.

Her determination is evident in her efforts to become a starship pilot, particularly in her diligence to overcome a fear of heights. Despite her lack of natural skill, she keeps trying. Her rivalry with Yohko defines much of her screen time, yet she also maintains friendships with the other pilots, Ayano Elizabeth Hakuhoin and Momiji Kagariya, and works alongside them on missions. In the Starship Girl Yamamoto Yohko II OVA, Madoka joins her teammates in exploring the ruins of an ancient civilization and contending with a new adversary, the ambitious former TERRA pilot Sylvie Dread, who targets Yohko.

Physically, Madoka is recognizable by her long brown hair and large, reflective forehead, the latter of which becomes a frequent target of Yohko's teasing. She is very much a supporting character who provides humor through her earnest but failed attempts to one-up Yohko, yet her persistence and occasional spark of ingenuity add depth to her role. No major personal development arc is depicted, but she remains a loyal and energetic member of the TERRA team throughout the series.
