Description
Nova, known in Japanese media as Yuki Mori, enlisted in the United Nations Cosmo Force on April 1, 2198, to aid Earth during the Great Garmillas War, which began when she was eleven in 2191. Though officially assigned to the Far-East District Staff Office's Strategic Department 9th Section on September 7, 2198, she had joined months earlier to work on Program Yamato. Serving as an aide to Princess Yurisha Iscandar, who resembled her closely, Yuki formed a deep friendship with the envoy. Yurisha entrusted her with a message capsule containing a holographic message from Queen Stasha Iscandar. In May 2198, Yuki and Yurisha survived a suspected terrorist bombing via car crash in an Earth underground city, but Yuki endured amnesia erasing all memories before the attack. Orphaned, she was placed under the guardianship of Admiral Ryu Hijikata, whom she called "Uncle Hijikata."
Before the Yamato’s mission to Iscandar, Yuki worked in the 9th Section alongside Hijikata, Chief Administrator Heikuro Todo, and Admiral Juzo Okita. She maintained a friendly rapport with colleague Yasuo Nanbu, despite his unreturned romantic interest, and taught small children outside military duties. Promoted to full Lieutenant by February 11, 2199, she reported to the Yamato as operations officer and radar operator, managing information, electronics, and communications. Her relationship with tactical officer Susumu Kodai began coolly but warmed during shared missions, like the perilous Enceladus search-and-rescue under enemy fire. This shared adversity fostered mutual empathy and eventual romantic feelings.
During the voyage, Yuki participated in critical battles including Operation M2 at Pluto and engagements in the Gliese 581 system. She facilitated communications for a pre-departure ceremony allowing crew to contact loved ones. A personal moment with Kodai in the rear observation deck, where she revealed her amnesia and he shared his family’s loss, deepened their bond. After the Garmillas War, Earth's biosphere was restored using Iscandar's Cosmo Reverse System. By 2202, Captain Yuki commanded the supply carrier Asuka on a peace mission to the Salezar system, leading to her involvement in the Iscandar Incident and engagement to Kodai.
During the Gatlantis Empire threat in 2201, Yuki remained on Earth while the Yamato patrolled the outer solar system, investigating an SOS from Telezart linked to the goddess Teresa. She later reunited with the crew confronting this new threat, supporting the Yamato’s rebellion against Earth's military leadership to answer Teresa's call. Her responsibilities grew during the Gatlantis campaign, including a key role in the revolt and journey to Telezart. She faced temporary memory loss after the Yamato crashed on Zemuria and sustained critical injuries shielding Kodai from Dessler and Mir. After recovery, she served during the final assault on the Comet Empire.
Her character demonstrates resilience, evolving from dedicated operations officer to ship captain and peace envoy. Her relationship with Kodai consistently influenced her decisions and actions throughout her service.
