Satori Tendou sports bright red spiky hair and downturned eyes, creating an appearance many perceive as unsettling. His name "Satori" alludes to a mind-reading yokai, echoing childhood bullying where peers labeled him a "monster" and barred him from volleyball teams. This isolation drove him to forge his signature "guess blocking" technique. By scrutinizing opponents' subtle cues—leg shifts or fleeting glances—he predicts spike trajectories before the ball is set, prioritizing thunderous rejections over mere stops. He first savored this approach by blocking a bully’s spike, relishing how it crushed the opponent’s spirit. Though middle-school coaches discouraged this high-risk style, Shiratorizawa’s coach Washijou prioritized results, granting Tendou free rein to score points.
At Shiratorizawa High, Tendou thrived as starting middle blocker, earning the moniker "Guess Monster" for his blocking dominance. His personality blends overt cheerfulness with sardonic teasing, targeting teammates and rivals alike. During matches, he adopts an intimidating demeanor, openly reveling in opponents’ frustration when blocked. This behavior roots in his past: his energetic persona and provocations act as both defense and assertion of belonging. Despite eccentricities, he genuinely supports teammates—mediating conflicts between kouhai like Shirabu and Goshiki, offering mid-match encouragement, and persistently engaging the reserved Ushijima Wakatoshi. He even arranged shelter for rival Hinata Shoyo during a training camp. Shiratorizawa became his "paradise," the first space fully accepting his unconventional traits and playstyle, nurturing fierce loyalty.
During Shiratorizawa’s Spring High match against Karasuno, Tendou’s guess blocking initially dominated, stifling Hinata and Kageyama’s quick attacks. He taunted rivals like Tsukishima Kei (dubbing him "average") to fracture their focus. Yet Karasuno adapted: Kageyama concealed sets, Hinata morphed into a decoy, and Tsukishima exploited Tendou’s predictability, culminating in Shiratorizawa’s defeat. Post-loss, Tendou announced his volleyball retirement after high school, declaring "Goodbye, my paradise." He believed no other team could replicate Shiratorizawa’s acceptance, rendering volleyball meaningless without that sanctuary. He later told Ushijima he anticipated calling him his "best friend."
Post-graduation, Tendou became a chocolatier in Paris, France. He maintained ties with former teammates, notably phoning Ushijima with encouragement during tough periods. His appearance stayed similar, though he shaved his head.
