Description
Ryō Kurokiba honed his skills in a rough Danish port town pub that cast out weak chefs, forging a survivalist mentality where kitchens were battlefields and food signified a chef's power. He rose to head chef young, commanding older staff. Alice Nakiri discovered him there, engaging him in repeated cooking duels over two years until her victory compelled him to acknowledge her as "Milady" and become her loyal aide, following her to Tōtsuki Culinary Academy.

He possesses a distinct dual personality. Normally lethargic and disinterested, he speaks slowly with minimal engagement. However, wearing constricting headgear like his signature flame-patterned crimson bandana triggers an immediate "Berserk Mode" transformation. This state makes him fiercely competitive, intimidating, and verbally confrontational, earning him the "mad dog" moniker. Removing the headgear reverses the shift. His culinary philosophy rejects bonds between chefs, viewing softness as weakness, prioritizing victory and forcing consumer submission through his dishes—though he later shows respect to skilled rivals like Megumi Tadokoro.

Specializing in seafood, particularly crustaceans like lobster, he displays exceptional knife skills and an instinctive grasp of marine ingredients. Years dueling Alice granted him proficiency in molecular gastronomy techniques, including using droppers and heat-resistant equipment. At the Tōtsuki Friendship and Rapport Training Camp, he supported Alice, intimidating Erina Nakiri and Hisako Arato under her direction, and cleared challenges like preparing 200 egg dishes overnight.

Competing in Block A of the 43rd Autumn Election preliminaries, tying his bandana mid-competition unleashed his aggressive persona, astonishing judge Natsume Sendawara with his speed and precision handling spiny lobsters. He advanced to the finals, showcasing his signature competitive drive. Later, he joined the rebel team in the Regimental Shokugeki opposing Azami Nakamura's Central regime. After the rebels' victory, he secured the 5th Seat of the Elite Ten Council.

His relationship with Alice remains central. He protects her from threats, demonstrated by intercepting Kyōichi Makime's attack during middle school. While often critical in his normal state, he remains deeply attentive to her needs. Observations during a pool outing revealed his awareness of the underlying kinship between Alice and Erina despite their rivalry. Post-rebellion, he continues as both Alice's aide and a high-ranking Elite Ten member, balancing his dual personas.
