Description
Emily Orange, a Western student at the Japanese branch of California Coast High School, forms the Unkai Surfers team with her teammate Jennifer Peach. Her deep obsession with Japanese culture, especially anime, idols, and shinobi, fueled her move to Japan in search of real ninjas. She frequently expresses this passion through stereotypical shinobi poses and using outdated medieval English phrases in casual talk. Emily exhibits high emotional responsiveness, becoming easily thrilled by Japanese cultural elements and equally disheartened by conflicts among friends or other racers.
Physically, she has short blonde hair reaching her neck, worn with a silver shinobi-style headband beneath her bangs. Her eyes are blue-grey, and she possesses tanned skin darker than most characters, standing 170 cm tall. Her casual attire is a schoolgirl uniform: a white shirt, orange fabric belt, blue and white striped skirt, and red-strapped sandals, accessorized with ear piercings, a prayer tag necklace, and an orange-yellow wristband. Her racing outfit features a shinobi theme: a dark grey bodysuit with silver accents, a maroon and gold mini-corset, navy blue sleeves with armor, and brown leg straps. Minor differences exist between media, like a white flowing tie in the game versus a black cape in the anime during races.
In the racing series plot, the Unkai Surfers prioritize becoming real shinobi over winning the Kandagawa Cup. They seek training from Kuromaru Manpuku, who initially declines due to cultural barriers. After defeating the Dress team, Kuromaru endorses them, enabling their shinobi path. However, upon achieving this goal, they immediately shift focus to exploring other Japanese cultural roles. In the OVA, Emily participates in creating a promotional video for Jet Racing, joining an impromptu play segment with Jennifer as part of Yuzu and Manatsu's concept.
Emily shares a close partnership with Jennifer Peach, mutually encouraging their enthusiasm for Japanese culture. She interacts affectionately with other characters, such as feeding Yuzu Midorikawa a piece of canned orange and cuddling Rin Namiki on the beach alongside Jennifer, reflecting her friendly and physically expressive nature within the group.
