Description
Flora, known as フローラ=サクトゥ in Japanese, is a female character residing in the village of the Great Tree. She is a pharmacologist and a pioneer in fermentation techniques, recognized for her expertise in healing magic and her production of miso and soy sauce. Physically, Flora is a beautiful woman with a delicate, slender figure and silver hair cut at nape length. Her typical attire includes a form-fitting dress that accentuates her figure.
Flora's personality is defined by a passionate and often single-minded dedication to her research, to the point of transforming her workspace into a living area. Despite this absorption, she is altruistic and pragmatic, taking proactive measures to protect others, such as pregnant women, from the unpleasant side effects of her experiments. Her primary motivation stems from a belief that at least one person must dedicate themselves to the pursuit of healing magic, which drives her work as both a researcher and a healer.
Flora is the cousin of Loo, another resident of the village. She originally came to the Great Tree village at the end of spring in year five while searching for Loo. Upon her arrival, similar to her cousin before her, she was attacked by Kuro and the wolf pack, which led to her meeting Hiraku Machio. After an initial stay of about ten days, she prepared for her move and settled in the village permanently before winter, establishing a research partnership with Loo.
Her role in the story is largely defined by her scientific contributions and her commitment to healing. After learning the concept of microorganisms from Hiraku Machio, she began pioneering fermentation, eventually earning the nickname the Queen of Fermented Foods. She serves as the official healer for village events, using her healing magic every year, and chooses not to compete in martial arts tournaments despite having a skill level sufficient for the knights category.
Key relationships include her cousin and research partner, Loo, with whom she explores pharmacology and fermentation. Hiraku Machio is her benefactor and scientific mentor, as he taught her about microbes and provided her with an initial laboratory space in his manor. Her relationship with the village security, including Yoru and the Lion family, is functional, as they have had to request the village's intervention due to extreme odors from her experiments. She also showed concern for Ann and Lamulias, temporarily relocating her laboratory to the hot spring resort during their pregnancies to avoid any olfactory impact.
Flora experiences notable development through her relocation and the evolution of her work. Her first laboratory in Hiraku's manor was eventually sealed during renovations due to persistent fermentation odors. A dedicated, isolated shed was then constructed for her work, which she subsequently furnished and moved into, leaving her private room in the manor empty. The intensity of her research is further highlighted when experiments with fish fermentation generated such a powerful stench that the hot spring resort required intervention from the village. Her notable abilities include advanced expertise in pharmacology, a high level of proficiency in healing magic, and her pioneering skill in fermentation that led to the creation of miso and soy sauce.
