TV-Series
Description
Carlos Barrios is a character who first appears during the North American arc of the story. Standing at 185 centimeters tall with a muscular build, he is a young man of American origin born on May 30, 1993. He has curly black hair, which he often covers with a white bandana, and wears earrings in both ears.
His background is deeply tied to his employment. From the young age of sixteen, Carlos began working as the personal chauffeur for the Wright family, a role that placed him in the service of Luna Wright. He remained in this position for many years, becoming a familiar and trusted presence. Prior to the worldwide petrification event, he was also a professional race car driver, possessing a high level of skill behind the wheel. Despite his loyalty and physical prowess, he is self-aware enough to acknowledge that he is not particularly adept at hand-to-hand combat or fighting.
Carlos is defined by his unwavering loyalty and deep affection for Luna Wright, whom he always addresses as "young lady." Over the long years of his service, his feelings for her evolved from professional duty into a profound, long-held romantic love. This devotion is his primary driving force. He is an energetic and gleeful individual, often seeking Luna's attention and offering her praise. He also possesses a strong moral compass, having been visibly disturbed by the willingness of others to resort to lethal violence. While he appears to have a calm demeanor, his actions are consistently guided by a desire to protect Luna and ensure her safety and happiness, even if it means shifting his allegiances.
Before the cataclysm that turned humanity to stone, Carlos was preparing to give Luna a platinum ring as a gift. As the first global petrification wave struck on June 3, 2019, Carlos and his colleague Max stood in front of Luna to shield her. Not wanting to lose the ring, Carlos placed it in his own mouth just before being turned to stone. He then exerted immense willpower, refusing to let Luna die alone, and managed to stay conscious and aware throughout the 3,700 years of his petrification.
Upon being revived in the stone world, Carlos spat out the perfectly preserved platinum ring. This object became a critical resource for Dr. Xeno, allowing him to build chemical factories and rapidly advance his scientific efforts. Carlos, along with Luna and Max, subsequently became a part of Xeno's American colony. He followed Stanley's orders and accompanied the sniper on a mission to eliminate the leader of the Kingdom of Science. However, during a reconnaissance mission, he encountered Taiju and other members of the Kingdom of Science. Despite the language barrier, Carlos felt no malice from them and, finding himself in a situation where his driving skills were needed, ended up helping them transport a drilling drill to the front lines. After being captured, he overheard their plan to dig a tunnel, a feat that astonished him. Upon learning that Senku was Luna's claimed boyfriend, he was shocked but still provided the group with a rough structural diagram of Xeno's fortress. Following these events, Carlos ultimately chose to side with the Kingdom of Science, a decision made entirely for the sake of Luna's well-being.
In the story's progression, Carlos is included in the advanced team that travels to South America to uncover the source of the petrification. His former career proves invaluable when the group uses a homemade motorcycle to traverse the continent. Carlos and Ryusui work together, using their bikes to kick up a smokescreen to obscure the enemy's line of fire. Later, he participates in the final decisive battle, and after the second worldwide petrification, he is turned to stone once more. When he is revived seven years later, he joins the corn division, traveling to North America to help revive his allies and subsequently becoming involved in the construction of a computer.
Carlos's defining relationships are with his companions from the American colony. His most significant bond is with Luna Wright. He has cared for her since her childhood, and his actions are consistently motivated by his deep love for her. He also shares a close, long-standing friendship with Max, the bodyguard. Recognizing his own weakness in combat, Carlos had originally recommended Max for the position, believing his colleague was the ideal person to protect Luna effectively without being overly intrusive in her daily life. Through his experiences, he develops a respect for the members of the Kingdom of Science, whose lack of ill intent and ambitious scientific feats stand in contrast to his previous allies.
Notable abilities include his exceptional skill as a driver, a result of his professional racing career. This talent proves crucial for transportation and tactical maneuvers in the stone world. He also demonstrates extraordinary mental fortitude, having the capacity to remain conscious for millennia while petrified. While not a front-line fighter by trade, his physical fitness and large stature make him a resilient and capable presence. His most lasting contribution to the world of science, however, was the simple yet vital act of preserving a single platinum ring in his mouth, an action that provided an irreplaceable resource for technological advancement.
