Movie
Description
Ryoma Terasaka is a student in the Kunugigaoka Junior High School Class 3-E, bearing attendance number 16. He is a tall and physically imposing young man, standing at 180 centimeters tall with a robust build and a distinctive, closely cropped haircut that gives him a rough appearance. His birthday is on April 10.
His personality is initially defined by a hot-headed and impulsive nature, with a tendency to solve problems through intimidation and force rather than careful planning. He is a classic schoolyard bully who, in his early years, used his physical strength to dominate weaker students and maintain his status. However, this approach proved ineffective after he entered the academically rigorous Kunugigaoka Junior High School, where he became isolated and disliked by his peers due to his poor academic performance and reliance on others. This isolation ultimately led to him being placed in the remedial Class 3-E.
At the start of the story, Terasaka is one of the most resistant students to their new teacher, Koro-sensei. He is disinterested in both studies and assassination, often clashing with the teacher and holding a rebellious attitude. His primary motivation in this period seems to be a desire to return Class 3-E to its former, apathetic state where his laziness and bullying could thrive without challenge. He resents the positive changes and ambition blossoming in his classmates, feeling left behind and frustrated by his own inability to adapt.
Terasaka's role in the story is that of a troubled student who undergoes a significant redemption arc. He plays the part of an internal antagonist early on, even being manipulated by an operative known as Shiro into a dangerous plan that endangers his entire class. After this event, he is confronted by his classmate Karma Akabane and feels profound guilt for his actions, which serves as the catalyst for his transformation. From that point forward, he commits to change, channeling his physical strength and determination into protecting his classmates and supporting their shared goal. He becomes a reliable frontline leader, especially during critical missions.
His key relationships evolve significantly over the course of the series. He initially has a strained relationship with many of his peers, but after his redemption, he becomes a loyal and caring friend. He leads his own small group, sometimes called the Terasaka group, which includes Takuya Muramatsu, Taisei Yoshida, and later Kirara Hazama and Itona Horibe. He takes it upon himself to mentor Itona, a troubled younger student, helping him integrate into the class. He also has a noted rivalry with the strategic Karma Akabane, who respects Terasaka's physical power and execution ability despite their differences. Furthermore, his relationship with classmate Nagisa Shiota becomes one of mutual respect after Terasaka helps calm Nagisa down and assists him in a crucial fight against a hostile instructor named Akira Takaoka.
Terasaka shows remarkable development from a selfish bully into a selfless and dependable leader. He learns to overcome his laziness and take responsibility for his actions, demonstrating a powerful sense of resolve and willpower. This is best illustrated when he pushes through the symptoms of a virus to participate in a mission, driven by guilt and a desire to make amends. He transitions from being one of the most isolated students to a central figure who fosters camaraderie and supports his teammates on the front lines. Years after graduation, he is recognized for his determination and physical prowess, leading to a career as a secretary to a politician with the goal of eventually becoming a member of the Diet himself.
His notable abilities are primarily physical. He possesses exceptional stamina and brute strength, making him a valuable asset in close-quarters combat and frontline operations. While not an academic prodigy, he has a strong sense of execution and is capable of making quick, calm decisions in high-pressure situations. He even demonstrates an aptitude for home economics, once earning the top score in that subject on a school-wide exam.
