Description
Himeno is a supporting character in the manga and anime Chainsaw Man, where she serves as a veteran Devil Hunter working for Public Safety's Special Division 4. She is easily recognized by her most distinctive feature, a black eyepatch covering her right eye, which she lost as the price for her supernatural contract. Beneath this, she is a tall and slender young woman with neck-length black hair and turquoise eyes, possessing a noticeably voluptuous figure that she typically conceals beneath the standard Public Safety suit and tie.

Himeno's outward personality is that of an upbeat, mature, and slightly mischievous senior figure. She often carries herself with relaxed body language and is capable of staying remarkably calm under extreme pressure, as seen during her team's mission against the Eternity Devil. She is perceptive and willing to use unorthodox methods to get results, such as motivating the naive Denji with the promise of a kiss. However, this cheerful exterior masks a deeply pessimistic and traumatized interior. Having witnessed the violent deaths of all five of her previous partners, Himeno operates under the grim belief that Devil Hunters rarely live long enough to suffer consequences like old age or smoking-related illnesses, a worldview she has internalized so completely that she pressures her new partner Aki Hayakawa into taking up the habit. She strongly believes in the teaching of her mentor, Kishibe, that the most successful Devil Hunters are those who are a little unhinged, as their unpredictability makes them more terrifying to devils.

Her primary motivation throughout the story is the survival and well-being of her current partner, Aki Hayakawa. Himeno cares for him deeply, developing romantic feelings for him as they worked together over time. This attachment is so strong that she briefly considers sacrificing the newer recruit, Denji, to the Eternity Devil if it means preventing Aki from using a cursed sword that would shorten his lifespan. She frequently asks Aki to quit Public Safety and become a private Devil Hunter with her, hoping to remove him from the lethal environment that claimed her previous partners.

Within the narrative, Himeno acts as an experienced mentor and field leader for newer members like Denji, Power, Kobeni, and Arai. Her role is to guide the team through dangerous missions, using her experience to keep them alive. Her relationships are central to her character. Beyond her protective and romantic feelings for Aki, she forms a unique bond with Denji. After a chaotic night of heavy drinking where she fulfilled her kiss promise by vomiting in his mouth, she later proposes an alliance with him to help each other pursue their respective crushes, becoming his first real human friend. She also shares a master-student relationship with the legendary Devil Hunter Kishibe, whose cynical lessons have profoundly shaped her own approach to life and work. Her feelings toward the enigmatic Makima are complex; while outwardly polite, she harbors a deep distrust for her superior, seeing her as a romantic rival for Aki's attention and questioning her true motives regarding Denji.

Himeno undergoes significant development in her short time in the story, primarily through her shifting perception of Denji. Initially viewing him as a useful but ultimately disposable asset, she undergoes a change of heart after witnessing his relentless and unconventional tactics against the Eternity Devil. She comes to see him as the kind of unhinged individual who might actually stand a chance against the dreaded Gun Devil, and she dedicates herself to supporting him in the fight. Her personal journey concludes with a final act of self-sacrifice. During a brutal ambush, she gives up her entire body to her contracted devil in exchange for its full power to protect her dying friends, fading away completely as the Ghost Devil manifests to fight their enemies. Her last thoughts are of Aki, requesting that he cry for her when she is gone.

Himeno's notable abilities all stem from her contract with the Ghost Devil. In exchange for permanently sacrificing her right eye, she gained the ability to summon and control the right arm of the Ghost Devil. This summoned arm is invisible, intangible, and capable of immense strength, allowing her to crush devils, restrain fiends, and even gouge flesh from powerful enemies like the Eternity Devil. She controls it by mimicking its movements with her own arm. In a desperate final act, she sacrificed her entire body to summon the Ghost Devil's full form, which proved powerful enough to overwhelm the Katana Devil before it was ultimately devoured by another devil, causing her to vanish entirely.
