Description
Akina Myōdō is the main protagonist of the Cardfight!! Vanguard Divinez series, introduced as a high school student who later advances to third year. He lives with his busy father and his younger sister, Hikari, for whom he serves as the primary caregiver due to Hikari’s chronic lung condition. This condition originated from a mountain camping trip where Hikari developed severe altitude sickness after becoming unattended, an incident that left Akina with deep guilt. His nurturing and selfless personality extends beyond his family, as he often prioritizes the well-being of others and shows kindness to classmates like Suo Yobitsugi. Akina has short dark blue hair with a distinctive red and white streaked cowlick above his forehead, a trait he shares with his sister. He typically wears a long-sleeved shirt with red and white striped sleeves over a black undershirt, paired with grey pants and red shoes with white accents.

Driven by his wish to cure Hikari, Akina enters the Fated Clash tournament after being recruited by the mysterious entity Gabwelius and chosen as the owner of the Fated One of Miracles, Rezael. He learns to play Vanguard from his senior coworker Nao Inabe, building a Keter Sanctuary deck around Rezael. His fighting style is notably aggressive, often maximizing offensive triggers while minimizing defense. Akina also possesses a mysterious power known as Design Force, which allows him to create miracles during fights and resist supernatural effects. As an owner of a Fated One card, he is granted temporary immortality until his wish is fulfilled.

During the Fated Clash, Akina defeats experienced opponents including Nao and professional fighter Taizo Kiyokura. In the finals against Suo Yobitsugi, a future version of Hikari reveals that in an alternate timeline, Akina’s loss would lead to his death and destruction of the tournament stage. Despite warnings, Akina persists, defeats the future Hikari in a practice match, and receives the card Liael-Amorta, designed to counter Suo’s Fated One of Zero, Blangdmire. Akina wins the final match, uses his wish to permanently cure Hikari, and helps Suo begin to heal from past trauma. After the tournament, Akina adjusts to life with a healthy sister and develops his own dream of becoming a professional Vanguard fighter. His key relationships include his protective bond with Hikari, mentorship under Nao Inabe, and a complex friendship with Suo. In subsequent arcs such as the Deluxe tournament and Parallactic Clash Arc, Akina continues to compete and confronts new threats, including the fog-like phenomenon Fantasma, while pursuing his personal aspirations.
