TV-Series
Description
Choromatsu Matsuno is the third-eldest of the six Matsuno sextuplets. His name originates from an Edo-era nickname for fast-running and foolish children, combined with the onomatopoeia "chorochoro," which means to rush. As a child in the original series, he was characterized as being "quick to judge and quick to flee," possessing notable speed and agility that made him excel in sports. He often partnered with his eldest brother, Osomatsu, to cause mischief, though their relationship frequently involved power struggles and rivalry. In one notable childhood incident when Osomatsu was temporarily adopted by a wealthy family, Choromatsu seized leadership of the remaining brothers and became tyrannical, only returning to normal after Osomatsu reclaimed dominance. A more serious childhood storyline depicted his severe psychological reaction when Osomatsu went missing for 40 years after a map was altered, causing Choromatsu to experience guilt that left him mentally frozen at around age ten.
During his teenage years, specifically in his second year of high school, Choromatsu began wearing thick glasses in an attempt to appear studious and intelligent. However, his posture became stiff, he acted as an obnoxious teacher's pet, and his grades remained poor because he hid erotic magazines inside his textbooks instead of actually studying. A moment of significance occurred when his adult self appeared to deliver a pep talk about responsibility, which helped set the trajectory for his future path.
In adulthood, Choromatsu has become physically distinct from his brothers despite their identical faces. He typically wears green-themed clothing, and his specific features include smaller pupils, a triangular downturned mouth, and no cowlicks in his hair, which he is said to trim meticulously. He positions himself as the most logical and responsible of the six brothers, frequently serving as the straight man to their various antics and expressing genuine concern that none of them have jobs or direction in life. He often suggests that he should be the eldest brother instead of Osomatsu, believing himself to be more mature and capable of leadership. However, this self-perception is consistently undermined by his own behavior. His biggest weakness is his infatuation with cute girls, particularly the cat-themed idol Nyaa Hashimoto and the fish-themed local idol Totoko Yowai, in whose presence he becomes a fawning, lovestruck admirer. He has openly admitted that his interest in these idols has nothing to do with their music, but rather stems entirely from wanting to fantasize about them. He also retains an interest in sexual content from his high school days.
Despite his attempts to project maturity, Choromatsu struggles to conceal his thoughts or emotions and has a tendency to overthink situations. His brothers have pointed out that his serious, straight man persona is not his "true personality," revealing underlying insecurities and a tendency toward empty boasting. His self-consciousness is so pronounced that it has been depicted as a massive, glowing, planet-like green mass that grows unstable when his awareness of how others perceive him becomes overwhelming. Any attempts he makes to genuinely improve himself or find employment are often derailed by circumstance or by the pull back to his complacent, unemployed NEET existence with his brothers. He is known for having a harsh mouth and a somewhat tsundere temperament, and of all the brothers, his mother tends to trust him the most with important errands. His relationship with Osomatsu remains central to his character; while he frequently criticizes his eldest brother's lack of responsibility, he still treats Osomatsu as the eldest son and follows his lead in many situations, revealing a deep, complicated bond that has existed since childhood.
