Description
Bloe Phthalo, younger brother to Balto Phthalo (Demon Lord Ariel's secretary), commands the Seventh Demon Army. He possesses messy blond hair and a perpetually wild, rough demeanor, contrasting sharply with Balto's composure. Bloe presents himself threateningly, often speaking aggressively and displaying a rebellious streak. Despite this abrasive exterior, he harbors deep respect and concern for Balto, constantly worrying about his brother's chronic overwork and firmly believing Balto would be a more suitable Demon Lord than Ariel.
He strongly opposed Ariel's sudden rise to power, viewing her as an unworthy outsider who disrupted demon society. Bloe openly challenged her authority during commanders' meetings, arguing against her aggressive militarization policies. He believed these endangered the demon race, citing their declining birth rates and lack of recovery from past conflicts. His resentment stemmed from Ariel's abrupt seizure of leadership, a position he felt rightfully belonged to Balto due to his dedication. Initially, Bloe underestimated Ariel's power and even hoped external forces like the human hero Julius might defeat her.
A pivotal shift occurred when Bloe learned Ariel's true identity as the Origin Taratect, the progenitor of spider monsters, and recognized her overwhelming strength. This revelation forced him to abandon all thoughts of rebellion. He aligned his actions with Balto's approach: obeying Ariel's commands while attempting to mitigate the destructive consequences of her war on humanity, solely to ensure demon race survival.
His relationships further define him. Bloe's loyalty to Balto is unwavering; he frequently assists him in suppressing dissent among demons. He also developed an unrequited affection for Shiraori (White), the Tenth Demon Army commander, after their first encounter where he burned her webs, earning her dislike. Despite courting her with gifts and seeking advice from Balto, Shiraori remained oblivious to his feelings. This poorly concealed crush added a layer of personal vulnerability to his combative persona.
Bloe was a proficient swordsman wielding a greatsword. During the Human-Demon Great War, he led the Seventh Army and personally confronted the human hero Julius Analeit. Bloe fought tenaciously, believing himself the only one capable of defeating Julius, but ultimately fell in that battle.
