Description
Kikurage is a small, enigmatic creature and an elite magic user belonging to the En Family in the world of Dorohedoro. At three years old, Kikurage is very young and has a diminutive stature, standing only 70 centimeters tall and weighing around 8 kilograms. The creature's sex is officially marked as unknown, though it is often guessed to be female. Kikurage's appearance is a peculiar blend of animal features, resembling a small, furry white creature with brown spots on its back. It has rabbit-like ears, goat-like arms and legs, black devilish horns protruding from its head, and a devil-like tail. Kikurage often lets its long tongue hang out of its mouth and wears a distinctive red mask with stitches around the face, which has holes to accommodate its horns, mouth, and ears.

The creature's background is rooted in tragedy and exploitation. Kikurage was originally found at a gathering of corpse lovers, where a wealthy female magic user was presenting it as her own partner, using Kikurage's resurrection abilities to make it seem as though she was the source of the power. This woman was secretly a user of Black Powder, a dangerous substance that enraged En, the head of the powerful En Family. En killed the woman by turning her into mushrooms, and in the process, discovered Kikurage hidden within her clothes, subsequently taking the creature into his own family.

Kikurage's personality is self-centered, childish, and somewhat sadistic. Its primary concerns are eating, playing, and the affection of its two favorite family members, En and Ebisu. Kikurage thinks of the powerful crime boss En as a father figure and views the eccentric magic user Ebisu as a sister. While it can be affectionate with those it likes, Kikurage also exhibits a cruel streak, finding amusement in killing insects by punching them, only to use its magic to bring them back to life so it can continue playing with them. The creature has a strong aversion to the stench of death and decaying corpses, and it generally refuses to use its power on the dead unless it is coaxed, bribed, or acts on a whim, as it finds the smell repulsive.

Within the story, Kikurage holds the position of an executive officer in the En Family, a testament to its value despite its small size and simple demeanor. Its primary role is as a holder of a rare and powerful magical ability. Kikurage possesses the unique magic of restoring life to the dead, a resurrection-type smoke that is white in color, emitted from its coffin-shaped forelimbs. This ability is highly sought after and makes Kikurage an invaluable asset, one that En fiercely protects. En does not treat Kikurage as a pet but as a family member, and he makes it clear that he will not command it to use its power; Kikurage does whatever it wants, whenever it wants. To protect it from harm, Kikurage wears a special protective collar that, when the creature feels threatened, will release a deadly barrage of blades.

Kikurage shares significant key relationships within the En Family. Its bond with En is one of deep affection and protection; Kikurage loves him, and in return, En dotes on it and is shown to be fiercely possessive, once declaring that anyone who would try to take Kikurage would die by his hand. Its relationship with Ebisu is sisterly, and the two are often seen together. The creature's development, while subtle, is seen in its interactions, particularly in a critical moment when it overcomes its disgust with the smell of death to revive Ebisu after she has been killed, showing a capacity for genuine attachment beyond its usual selfishness.
