ONA
Description
Dokuga is a magic user and one of the five elite generals of the Cross-Eyes gang, serving directly under the organization's mysterious leader, the Boss. His name translates to "poisonous moth," a reference to his mask and his deadly inherent magic. He is 23 years old, stands 177 centimeters tall, and has short black hair with distinctive compound eyes that resemble an insect's, colored amber.
Dokuga's magic takes the form of extremely poisonous saliva. This ability is so dangerous that even small amounts can kill if ingested, and if it gets into a person's eyes it can cause temporary blindness. The power is a constant source of isolation, as any stray spittle poses a lethal threat to those around him. As a result, he cannot share meals with his comrades, must use separate bathroom facilities, and has to suppress strong emotions such as laughter or anger to prevent an accident. This necessity has shaped him into a person who appears calm, intelligent, and emotionally detached, but this cold exterior is largely a protective front. Beneath it, he is fundamentally kind, gentle, and deeply empathetic, which are dangerous traits to possess in the brutal world of magic users. He dislikes killing and will avoid a fight if possible, once even catching and releasing an insect rather than harming it.
Despite his gentle nature, Dokuga is a highly capable and deadly fighter. He is surprisingly strong and mobile for his build, and is a master of knife combat, able to throw blades with pinpoint accuracy and defeat opponents before they have a chance to use their own magic. His lethal abilities, combined with his personality, create a constant internal conflict. He has witnessed the Boss committing horrific acts, including the murder of a fellow Cross-Eyes member named Risu, which left him traumatized. As the Boss's right hand and one of the few who knows his secrets, Dokuga is often tasked with overseeing brutal operations, such as the systematic slaughter of innocent magic users. This duty weighs heavily on him, leaving his "soul in tatters," and he would privately vomit from the stress before regaining his composure to lead his men.
His primary motivation is loyalty to the Boss, who gave his life meaning in a world that rejected him. He is fanatically devoted and willing to do anything asked of him, as this mission and relationship may be the only form of affection he can safely express. This loyalty is severely tested as he witnesses the Boss's descent into madness. He is particularly close with his fellow officers, and cares deeply for the well-being of his comrades, often worrying about their prosperity. Throughout the story, Dokuga struggles with the burden of the terrible truths he knows versus his unwavering dedication to his leader and his family within the gang.
Later in the narrative, after a series of traumatic events and a confrontation that leads to him being disassembled by magic, Dokuga suffers from amnesia. Without the memory of his poisonous nature, his personality transforms completely, becoming bright, cheerful, and prone to open laughter. Upon eventually regaining his memories, he is forced to confront the full weight of his past once more, including the loss of many friends. After the final conflicts are resolved, Dokuga chooses to leave the magic user world behind and remain in the chaotic city of Hole, where he finds work as an employee at a restaurant called the Hungy Bug.
