Description
Kaname Sudō, a 17-year-old high school student, navigates solitude after his mother’s death and his father’s overseas departure, maintaining only distant ties to his estranged swordsmith grandfather. Initially hesitant to embrace violence, his resolve hardens when friends fall victim to Darwin’s Game, a lethal battle royale he unknowingly enters via a classmate’s invitation. Early clashes with rookie hunter Banda-kun and undefeated fighter Shuka Karino—both defeated through ingenuity—catapult him into the game’s spotlight.
His Sigil, Kagutsuchi (Fire God’s Hammer), manifests weapons or tools within a 2-kilometer radius, limited to structurally grasped items; smartphones and vehicles elude his grasp. Summoned objects dissipate upon unconsciousness or dismissal. Victory in the Treasure Hunt event grants him the High Roller ability, forcing opponents to match high-risk wagers. Combined with tactical adaptability, this cements his dominance among players.
After the Eighth Clan’s Wang murders his friend Shinozuka, Kaname discards pacifism, co-founding the Sunset Ravens with Shuka, Rein, Ryuji, and Sui/Sōta. They impose martial law in Shibuya, outlawing unauthorized battles and converting Danjou Boxing Club into a sanctuary for civilians and new players. His leadership prioritizes minimizing casualties, banning killings outside sanctioned events, and fortifying defenses against chaos.
Rigorous training under mentors like Ximing sharpens his combat prowess, earning renown as a formidable fighter. His morality evolves into pragmatic neutrality: sparing innocents while eliminating existential threats. This duality labels him a Wild Card, bridging alliances with former foes for shared objectives.
The game’s true purpose unravels as interdimensional entities called Greed invade, orchestrated by the Game Master. During the cataclysmic Greed Invasion, Kaname sacrifices himself to obliterate their leader, Shirogane. Restored by the enigmatic First Guardian, he returns to a fractured world, reuniting the Sunset Ravens to heal Shibuya’s scars while upholding their code of order.
Central bonds include Shuka, whose combat prowess and romantic tension fuel their fiery partnership, and Rein, a strategist decoding the game’s secrets. His charisma and empathy forge loyal alliances, tempering conflicts through diplomacy and unyielding resolve to shield the vulnerable.
