Description
M. Bison, known in Japan as Vega, is the supreme leader of the Shadaloo criminal syndicate and stands as the primary antagonist of the Street Fighter series. Very little is known about his past before his rise to power, including the meaning of the initial "M" in his name, and his national origin remains deliberately ambiguous, though his criminal operations are based out of a secret headquarters in Thailand. His quest to master an energy source known as Psycho Power led him to purge all goodness and humanity from his soul; this expelled positive energy eventually manifested as a separate being, the woman named Rose, who wields the opposing Soul Power and serves as one of his enemies.

As a character, Bison is the embodiment of pure, callous evil driven by a megalomaniacal desire for world domination and the pursuit of absolute power. He is ruthless, unforgiving, and supremely arrogant, viewing himself as a god-like figure and holding nothing but contempt for those he considers weak or incompetent. While he demands absolute loyalty from his subordinates, he considers them to be nothing more than disposable pawns to be discarded when they are no longer useful. His narcissism and sadistic sense of humor are exemplified in his infamous response to Chun-Li when she accuses him of murdering her father: "For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday".

Bison's primary motivation is the conquest of the world and the expansion of his own power. To these ends, Shadaloo engages in a vast array of criminal activities, including drug trafficking, arms dealing, terrorism, and illegal human experimentation. He also orchestrates the World Warrior martial arts tournaments, using them as a means to identify and recruit powerful fighters for his cause or to eliminate his enemies. Within the story, he serves as the central villain whose actions directly affect nearly every major character in the series. He is responsible for the death of Chun-Li's father and the near-death of the American air force officer Charlie Nash, events that drive the vendettas of Chun-Li, Guile, and Nash against him. He also seeks to corrupt strong warriors like Ryu, hoping to use Ryu's body as a more powerful vessel for his own consciousness.

Bison's key relationships are defined by his tyrannical nature. He commands the Four Heavenly Kings of Shadaloo: Sagat, a powerful fighter who joined for revenge against Ryu; the claw-wielding Spanish ninja Vega, who serves only to further his own aesthetic ideals; and the boxer Balrog, who acts as Shadaloo's enforcer. He has a deeply twisted connection to his "Dolls," a squad of brainwashed young female assassins including Cammy, who was created using Bison's own DNA as a template for a potential new body. Beyond his enemies Chun-Li, Guile, and Rose, he is also opposed by the Satsui no Hadou-empowered Ryu and the master of the Raging Demon, Akuma, who once destroyed Bison's body with the technique.

Throughout the series' narrative, Bison's development is marked by his repeated cycles of "death" and resurrection. The immense power of Psycho Power constantly deteriorates his physical form, forcing him to seek out new, more powerful bodies to house his soul. He has transferred his consciousness into cloned bodies and has even attempted to possess Ryu. In the Street Fighter Alpha series, his body is destroyed, and his soul is forced to inhabit Rose before scientists can construct a new, albeit weaker, vessel for him. This recurring struggle against his own failing body is a central element of his character arc.

Notably, Bison wields Psycho Power, a form of dark, chaotic, negative energy that appears as destructive purple flames. He uses this power to perform a variety of signature special attacks. The Psycho Crusher envelops his entire body in an energy sphere as he charges at his opponent. He can also fire energy projectiles known as Psycho Shots, teleport using the Bison Warp, and use the Head Stomp to bounce off his foe from above. His most powerful techniques include the Super Psycho Crusher and the Psycho Punisher, a devastating close-range attack where he forces a massive burst of energy directly into his target's chest.
