Description
Cabaji, often referred to as Cabaji the Acrobat, serves as the chief of staff and a key combatant for the Buggy Pirates. He was born on September 8th and first appeared as an antagonist during the Orange Town Arc in the East Blue, later making additional appearances in Loguetown and beyond.

In terms of appearance, Cabaji is a tall and slender man with a very distinctive hairstyle: it is long and covers half of his face on one side, while the other side is shaved in a parallel pattern. In the manga, this hair is typically black, whereas the anime depicts the longer portion as dark green and the shaved side as light green. The lower part of his face is almost always covered by a large, blue and white checkered scarf. He wears a sleeveless, knee-length coat—brown in the manga but purple in the anime—over a white sash, white pants that widen toward the cuffs, and white shoes. After the timeskip, his outfit is updated with a white top hat, but he retains his signature scarf and serious demeanor.

Cabaji's personality is characterized by a serious, mysterious, and elegant demeanor. He carries himself with a degree of showmanship that reflects his skills as an acrobat, treating combat almost like a theatrical performance. He is consistently loyal to his captain, Buggy, and is frequently seen at his side, showing deep concern for Buggy's well-being and even crying when he believed Buggy had perished. However, this elegance and loyalty are undercut by a ruthless and dishonorable streak in battle. Cabaji is a pragmatic and dirty fighter who has no qualms about exploiting an opponent's weaknesses, such as deliberately striking at existing wounds to gain an advantage. He also shows little regard for his crewmates' animal companion, Richie the lion, callously using the beast as a human shield to protect himself from an explosion. This underhanded approach to swordsmanship led his opponent, Roronoa Zoro, to dismiss him as a man not worthy of the title of true swordsman.

As a fighter, Cabaji possesses significant physical strength, capable of lifting Richie with one arm and sending his rival Mohji flying with a single kick. His primary combat style is a unique form of acrobatic swordsmanship he calls Carnival Tricks, which he often performs while riding a unicycle. This arsenal includes a variety of named techniques. He can perform Kyokugi! Kaji Oyaji, breathing a stream of fire from his mouth. With Kyokugi! Yukemuri Satsujin Jiken, he spins his sword rapidly to kick up a cloud of dust, allowing him to launch a sneak attack. He can ride his unicycle straight up vertical surfaces with Kyokugi! Yama Noboro. Another technique involves him releasing hundreds of razor-sharp, and sometimes explosive, spinning tops at his target, known as Kyokugi! Kamikaze Hyakkoma Gekijo. He is also skilled in sword swallowing and, in desperate situations, has shown proficiency in hand-to-hand combat.

His motivations are largely tied to his position within the Buggy Pirates. He is driven by a desire to prove himself as the best in the crew, which fuels a constant and often bickering rivalry with Mohji, the crew's other high-ranking officer. He holds a deep grudge against the Straw Hat Pirates for their defeat of his crew in Orange Town. His role in the story is primarily as a supporting antagonist and a loyal subordinate. He participates in the initial conflict in Orange Town, where he is defeated by Zoro. He later accompanies Buggy to Loguetown, where he briefly captures Monkey D. Luffy on the execution platform, only for the event to be interrupted by a lightning strike. He remains a steadfast member of Buggy's crew throughout the series, following him into the Grand Line and beyond. He is present for the crew's party with Portgas D. Ace, pleads for Buggy's rescue when the captain is sent to Impel Down, and eventually becomes a member of Buggy's Delivery service and the Cross Guild following his captain's rise to become a Warlord of the Sea and later an Emperor.

In terms of character development, Cabaji does not undergo a significant transformation. He remains a consistent figure: a loyal, serious, and somewhat cunning officer who is always ready to fight for his captain's cause. While his initial role was that of a direct combat threat to Zoro, his character has largely settled into the role of a recurring ally in the larger, chaotic narrative surrounding Buggy's improbable rise to power. His journey is less about personal change and more about maintaining his position and loyalty as his captain's fortunes dramatically shift.
