Description
Dropkick is a Decepticon and a major antagonist, functioning as one half of a deadly hunting pair sent to eliminate Autobot survivors. He is a Triple Changer, a classification of Transformer capable of assuming two distinct alternate modes in addition to his robot form. Upon arriving on Earth in 1987, Dropkick scanned a blue and black AMC Javelin muscle car for his vehicle mode and later acquired a Bell AH-1 SuperCobra attack helicopter as his aerial alternate mode.
In terms of personality, Dropkick is defined by his profound and unrestrained hatred. He holds both Autobots and humans in utter contempt, viewing them as targets rather than living beings. Unlike his partner Shatter, who is strategic and capable of manipulation and deception to achieve their goals, Dropkick is the brute force of the duo. He is impatient, bloodthirsty, and prefers direct, violent action over subtlety or sneaking around. He finds it deeply humiliating to pretend to be a peacekeeper or to cooperate with humans, as he sees such acts as beneath him. Dropkick derives genuine pleasure from killing, notably referring to the deaths of humans as them popping, and shows no hesitation in executing prisoners or witnesses.
Dropkick and his partner Shatter were active participants in the Decepticon war on Cybertron. Following the war, they were tasked with hunting down Autobots who had scattered across the galaxy. Their first known act in this mission is the brutal interrogation of the Autobot Cliffjumper on one of Saturn's moons. After failing to extract information, Dropkick personally executes Cliffjumper by vertically bisecting him with a blade weapon on his arm. Their mission shifts when they detect a signal from the Autobot B-127, who later calls himself Bumblebee, originating from Earth.
Upon arriving on Earth, Dropkick and Shatter quickly encounter the human military organization Sector 7. While Dropkick wants to annihilate the humans, Shatter forces him to comply with a more cunning plan: they pose as intergalactic peacekeepers hunting a dangerous criminal. This reluctant alliance grants them access to Sector 7's satellite network, which they upgrade with Cybertronian technology to track Bumblebee. Throughout this period, Dropkick remains the enforcer, carrying out the dirty work including the murder of Dr. Powell, a Sector 7 scientist who discovered their true intentions.
The character's primary relationship is with his partner, Shatter. He functions as her second-in-command or enforcer, following her lead despite his personal desire for immediate violence. He respects her authority and tactical mind, setting aside his own aggressive tendencies to assist in her schemes, though often grudgingly. Their dynamic is one of effective synergy, with Shatter as the strategic planner and Dropkick as the physical instrument who carries out the most brutal aspects of their mission.
His central role in the story is as a relentless pursuer of the protagonist, Bumblebee. He is driven by the Decepticon mission to eliminate Autobots and personally seems to harbor an intense animosity toward Bumblebee. He toys with and violently beats the Autobot during interrogations and combat, seemingly taking pleasure in his opponent's vulnerability.
Dropkick's development in the narrative is one of consistent, unchanging brutality. He enters the story as a ruthless killer and remains so until his demise. The character's defining trait of impatience and preference for direct confrontation ultimately leads to his downfall. During a final battle at a communications tower, Dropkick engages Bumblebee in combat. Seeking an advantage, he transforms into his helicopter mode, but Bumblebee uses a heavy metal chain to ensnare his rotors. As Dropkick transforms back to robot mode in a desperate attempt to escape, the chain tightens around his body. Bumblebee then pulls the chain with immense force, tearing Dropkick apart and destroying him. In a final irony, the technology he so despised is instrumental in his destruction.
In terms of notable abilities, Dropkick is physically powerful and a capable close-quarters combatant. His primary weapons include a large blade mounted on his arm, which he uses for lethal slashing attacks, and some form of energy cannon or scatter cannon. The nature of his ranged weapon appears to be unique, as it is shown to disintegrate human targets into a transparent, liquid-like substance upon death. As a Triple Changer, his greatest tactical asset is his versatility, allowing him to pursue targets on roads and through the air, a capability that makes him a significantly more unpredictable and dangerous opponent than a standard Transformer.
