TV-Series
Description
Hatchi Kita is an eighteen-year-old young man residing in Neo Tokyo during the year Galaxy Century 0051. He is initially introduced as a part-time debt collector working for a loan shark named Yang. His encounter with the series' other protagonist, the unlucky freelance reporter Robby Yarge, begins when Hatchi retrieves Robby's bag from a thief. Despite their initially amicable meeting, Hatchi later appears at Robby's doorstep in his professional capacity to collect on Robby's significant debts, setting off a chase that forms the catalyst for their adventure.
Hatchi's personality is defined by a sharp intellect and a deep-seated dissatisfaction with predictability. He is described as a cool genius who excels both in his studies and in physical prowess, possessing notable martial arts skills. The world of Neo Tokyo, with its advanced quantum super-light-speed navigation technology that allows for precise predictions of traffic and weather, has left him profoundly bored. He finds no excitement in a life where everything can be calculated and foreseen. This desire for novelty and the unpredictable is his primary motivation; he is actively searching for something interesting and spontaneous to break the monotony of his existence.
Hatchi's role in the story is that of a grounded counterpart to the more chaotic and opportunistic Robby. While Robby is a self-proclaimed freelancer chasing money and leisure, often dragging them into trouble, Hatchi is portrayed as more selfless and observant, looking out for those around him. Their dynamic is central to the series, beginning with an adversarial debtor-collector relationship that quickly evolves into an unlikely partnership. Hatchi ultimately decides that accompanying Robby on his impulsive flight to the legendary planet Isekandar is far more interesting than bringing him in for his debts. This decision transforms him from a pursuer to a traveling companion aboard Robby's spaceship, the Hizakuriger.
Information about Hatchi's character development across the series is limited, but his core motivation is established from the start as a search for the unpredictable. His journey with Robby forces him out of the calculated, safe world he knew and into a series of chaotic and often silly galactic misadventures, which directly fulfills his initial desire. In terms of abilities, Hatchi is consistently noted for his high level of intelligence and his physical combat skills, making him capable in a fight and quick to grasp situations, traits that complement Robby's more brazen and less cautious nature. His primary contribution to the duo is not a specific special power, but rather his sharp mind and athletic ability, which help them navigate the various predicaments they encounter on their journey.
